It is wonderful news that the U.S. and India are discovering the mutual
benefits co-operation between these two democracies will bring. This
friendship has my full endorsement.

India and U.S. Have Never Been Closer, Bush Says
President Bush says India and the United States have never been closer than
they are now.
In a television address to the Indian people from a historic fort known as
"Purana Qila" in New Delhi, Mr. Bush said rivalries of the Cold War kept the
two democracies separate for decades. But now, he said, the two together can
transform the world.

production -- i. e., Bollywood and Hollywood - should be pals.

Bush is just exacerbating the proliferation problem and causing greater
potential tension between India and Pakistan by treating them unequally.
Musharraf is holding onto power by a thread and Bush is making the
situation worse.
But I guess after his insulting treatment to the memory of Mohandas
Gandhi, he had to do something with India. But it does little to arrest
the free fall in his poll numbers.

How much more deluded can you get??! Whatever America does, did not,

nuclear weapons from China to Pakistan, and from there to every Muslim

China didn't do this out of stupidity; They have the perfect game plan
in mind, that involves Pakistan or North Korea giving it to a nice
gentleman from Arabia (or North Korea), to make bright mushroom cloud
occur in a major western capital, thus resulting in some kind of global
economic shifting of power.

You can get as deluded as fundy, neocon, apparently.

Whatever America does, did not,
and will not make the slightest differece to the proliferation

It's not an excuse to make the problem even worse by accelerating the
development and dangers. What if indian nuclear reactors are attacked,
or robbed or held hostage by terrorists? What if double agents have
infiltrated into india and can now more easily get their hands on nuclear
materials, dirty bomb materials, etc? Bush is fucking things up worse
than they are already and there's no excuse for it.

of
nuclear weapons from China to Pakistan, and from there to every Muslim
yahoo who can push a bright red button.

We all knew that India and Pakistan had secret nuclear programs for
decades before they officially acknowledged it. If our supposed
intelligence services could tell that Iraq or Iran were developing
programs, they certainly knew that India was diverting materials from the
Atoms For Peace program from way back.
In any event, it's not just about the proliferation itself. By
strengthening India's, it's arch-rival Pakistan is under increased
pressure. That may topple Musharraf and put fundamentalist, madrassa
raised motherfuckers in power. Even if Musharraf holds onto power, he
may be tempted to work with terrorists so that they could infiltrate
bombs into India, in the case of a sneak attack by BJP style Hindu
fundamentalists.

No, because U.S. multinationals have a large non-union labor pool which
they can exploit, which will work 60-hour weeks for 10-hours-a-week pay,
and which does not demand or request workplace health and safety.

You're falling for a common myth, often mostly propagated by idiot
red-necks, who's idea of "geo politics" revolve around the local bull
named "Politics", and its owner "Joe"...Or by some European twit who
longs for the days when he could ride on an elephant and hunt for
Bengal tiger, which may or may not have even existed in that
area...(But hey, the idea of riding an elephant through the undergrowth
with band of natives running beside you, makes a fantastic tale to tell
your kid).
There are a hundred odd geo political reasons for USA and India to be
much more than just allies. The least of them being the "stated"
economic ones. The most obvious of them being, if you already saturated
a market, what do you do to sell more products and keep your local
people employed? The obvious answer is, create another market...
I am not going to get into the domino effect of this, but I am sure you
understand the benefits to the US worker, in an untapped market for US
products, over 3 times the size of the entire US population...
Much more than that, is to have an entire sub-continent as a friend,
sit slap-bang in the middle of the route from the middle-east to the
far-east, with Muslims on one side and the Chinese on the other....
