Our local paper ran a piece the other day about the Robert Ingersoll
Birthplace Museum. It is the last Ingersoll home still standing. It is
in Dresden, NY, not too far from where I live. I never knew that he was
born around here.
The article talks about his political speeches, and barely mentions his
anti-religious views. They do have one disclaimer in the article, to the
effect that people should be warned, if they visit the museum, that:
'"Reader and listener discretion advised" may be an appropriate caution
for people uncomfortable with Ingersoll's views.'
Perhaps it is time to start increasing public awareness about Ingersoll
and his writings in my corner of the swamp, eh?

I didn't know he was from New York, either. The Empire State has found
its emperor.
