Object: INTELLECTUAL PROGRESS
Since the original cave men, man has been making steady progress.
Man has progressed from believing in mystical astrology to believing in
science based astronomy.
Man has progressed from practicing mystical alchemy to science based
chemistry.
Man has progressed from mental mysticism to scientifically based psychology
and medical practice.
With the growth of scientifically supported knowledge of the
physical/chemical/electrical function
of the brain man will add religion to the dust bin of other irrational and
mystical beliefs.
The knowledge has already arrived in science but has not yet been
disseminated to the rest of
mankind. This process of dissemination and acceptance will likely take the
rest of this century
to finish the process.

Way to optimistic. The scientific revolution started by Newton
should have been adequate to make religion extinct. Most certainly the
scientific progress of the 20th century should be enough. But I don't
see the knowledge being disseminated and accepted. Less people believe
in evolution now than in the 70s. If current trends continue the
religious wackos will decide that the second law of thermodynamics or
quantum mechanics is ungodly or some such crap. You underestimate the
bad guys. Their enemy is reason itself. The religious right longs for
the middle ages when faith and superstition ruled the world and will
work diligently to lead us into the 12th century.

Any evidence for all of that? Or are you just atheist "wackos" in the

My "paranoia" is directed at only a small minority of conservative
religious wackos. I am not suggesting that ordinary religious people
like you, no matter how foolish they be, are a threat to the march of
reason and progress. I am talking about that Pat Robertsons and people
of that ilk whom even you probably find to be embarrassing.

Looks like you would like to see censorship of religious speech, if not
the abolition of free speech altogether. Are you dangerous to democracy and
our freedoms? Religion is about good moral character and you have yet to
explain how your "march of reason and progress" figures in good moral
character formation.
I have seen atheists hate their own parents for telling them to be good
boys and girls when they were kids, let alone Jesus Christ, commanding us to
love each other as He loved us, ...to the death if need be. Are you one of
them?

Ridiculous deduction. How do you infer that from anything I said?

Are you dangerous to democracy and

No.

Religion is about good moral character and you have yet to

You have yet to argue that religion figures in good moral character.
Perhaps some religious people manage to make a connection. But even
you would probably agree that many religious people don't.

Are you THAT ignorant of religion, that you should think anyone who
lacks "good moral character" can enter heaven, let alone the presence of
God?

Perhaps some religious people manage to make a connection. But even

Why are you citing the failures in class as being indicative of the
course content?

Well, why are you posting anti-religious calumnies then? Can you make
the distinction between what religion teaches, and those who seek, yet often
fail to live up to? Only Satan's minions confess Christ, yet do, as well as
justify doing the opposite from what Christ preached.

What is it about religious fanatics, that they cannot see that without freedom
FROM religion, they cannot have freedom OF religion.
For your self, I can see how it would make no difference. You would just change
the name of your god, and find a suitable passage in which ever religious text
was appropriate, and carry blithely on.
You see Frank; Without freedom FROM religion, I can come around with a gang of
bullies, drag you off to some dark little shed, force you to pay your tithe, or
whatever, and you have no protection in law, because that is my religion, and
you are not free FROM it.
A little extreme, I'll grant you, but you must have seen them your self, the
fanatics who would advocate just that.
....And of course, the State would also be free to do the same.
Do you really want that?
The cult with the most guns, would be the "One True Faith".
Look at Iraq, for an example.

Are you dangerous to democracy and our freedoms?

No.

Religion is about good moral character and you have yet to

You have yet to argue that religion figures in good moral character.

Are you THAT ignorant of religion, that you should think anyone who
lacks "good moral character" can enter heaven, let alone the presence of
God?

And of course only xtians can have a "good moral character": Yes?

Perhaps some religious people manage to make a connection. But even
you would probably agree that many religious people don't.

Why are you citing the failures in class as being indicative of the
course content?

Because consistent failures in class, tend to indicate a failure in both the
teacher, and the curricula.

I have seen atheists hate their own parents for telling them to be
good
boys and girls when they were kids, let alone Jesus Christ, commanding us
to
love each other as He loved us, ...to the death if need be. Are you one

The eternal stand by, of those xtians who prefer the armchair to the mission.
"God does not expect me to succeed"
May be true, but I'm sure that you are expected to try.

lyingly called himself Frank the Atheist. He's one of those
theists who, for some reason or other, hated or became
angry with their god for a time, thought that this made
them an atheist (which it didn't, since he still had to
believe that a god existed in order to hate or be angry
with it, then got over his snit and thought that he had
become a theist again - though he had never stopped
being one. Theists like Frank refuse to understand this.

You're not evil at all, good Puck. But, Pastor Frank... He's
been totally whacko since even before the days when he
lyingly called himself Frank the Atheist. He's one of those
theists who, for some reason or other, hated or became

You got yourself muddled again, Michelle. In the beginning I called
myself Frank the Fundy, not Frank the atheist. However I only became a
theist late in life after reading just about everything available in the
world's supermarket of ideas / ideals.
The impetus to change my atheism to theism was the inherent and
depressing negativity of atheism, and the happiness of so many theists.

Atheists like, Frank, refuse to believe anything that does fit into their idea
of how things *should* be.
