The Judge got it right. The reaction of the Religious right should be
very interesting.

I'm waiting for the far right to start describing
Judge Jones as a "liberal, atheist, god-hating,
activist judge" as opposed to the reality ... oh
wait, "reality" - what's that to the far right?

This is. Some observations by a young lady:
What do I dislike about theism?...Let me count the ways...
I dislike the hypocrisy,
the corruption,
the greed
and the lies.
I dislike the veneration of ignorance,
the glorification of idiocy,
the wild-eyed hatred of progress
and the fear of education, which send the faithful shrieking,
vampire-like, from the light of knowledge.
I dislike the way in which prejudice
is passed off as piety.
The way superstition is peddled as wisdom.
The way intolerance is raised to the lofty heights
of "Truth".
I dislike how hatred is taught as love,
how fear is instilled as kindness,
how slavery is pressed as freedom,
and how contempt for life is dressed up and adored as spirituality.
I dislike the shackles religions place on the mind,
corrupting, twisting and crushing the spirit
until the believer has been brought down to a suitable state
of worthlessness.
So lost and self-loathing, so bereft of hope or pride,
that they can look into the hallucinated face of their imaginary
oppressor
and feel unbounded love and gratitude for the additional suffering
it has declined,
as yet,
to visit upon them.
I dislike people's need for a communal delusion,
like drug addicts who unite just to share the same needle.
I dislike the way reason is reviled as a vice
and reality is decreed to be a matter of convenience.
The way common sense and ordinary human decency
get re-named "holy law" and advertised as the sole province
of the faithful.
I dislike religions' wholesale theft of any number
of ancient mythologies,
only to turn around and proclaim
how "unique" their doctrine is.
I dislike how intelligence is held as suspect
and inquiry is reviled as a high crime.
I dislike the pillaging of the impoverished,
the extortion of the gullible,
the manipulation of the ignorant
and the domination of the weak.
I dislike the invention of sins
for the satisfaction of those who desire to punish.
I dislike the demonization of unbelievers,
The ill-concealed hate of proselytizers,
The hysterical rants of holy rollers,
The wigged-out warnings of psychic healers,
The dismantling of public education via religious school vouchers,
The erosion of civil rights by theocratic right-wingers,
The righteous wrath of gun-toting true believers,
The destruction wrought by holy warriors,
The blood-drenched fatwas of ayatollas,
and the apocalyptic prophesies of unmedicated messiahs.
Most of all, though, I dislike the certain knowledge
that religion,
in one grotesque form or other,
will be with us so long as there is a single dark, cobwebbed corner
of the human imagination
that a believer can stuff a god into.

What is going to be interesting is, how this case
is used in other courts, when ID is challenged.
I suspect eventually Kansas will be challenged.

It is a precedent, but that won't stop the creationists from trying. Not
only in Kansas, but there are attempts being made to replace science
with mythology in Georgia, Utah, Indiana, Michigan, SC, and probablyu
several others.

Hello,
The advocates of evolution have nothing to fear. The vast majority of the
judges in America are liberals. The vast majority of the news media are
liberals. Even if the the advocates of ID succeed at the local level--the
lawyers of the evolutionists can keep appealing the case until a liberal
court rules in your favor. After the judge issued the ruling in favor of
evolution--the editors and reporters had stories praising the judge. All
of the other judges in America read those stories in the newspapers and
heard those stories on news programs.
They now know that if they ruled in favor of ID--they would be ridiculed
by the liberal news media and if they rule in favor of evolution--they
will be praised and complemented by the news media. In other words--they
would prefer to be praised and complemented than ridiculed. Therefore,
evolutionists have nothing to worry about.

By your standard you are a liar. You just made this up. If not then

You know nothing about the law, do you? You don't get to "keep

Some day, when you tire of sinning and tire of lying, look up the term
"argument um ad hominem". You know nothing of the law and you have no
objections to the content of the decision so you do what you seem to
love doing, you attack the person. A lifelong Republican, nominated by
the current president, confirmed by the current Senate, is, according
to you, liberal. Why? Because you don't like his decision. And why is
the decision bad? Because he is liberal. You turn people from Christ
and from God with every post.

I kind of doubt that. We had this in the case
of Scientific Creationism in Arkansas and Lousiana.
There, the lies became central to the case.
Creationism left a trail of evidence that they
knew Scientific Creationism was not science and
was only a ploy to get religion into to schools.
That doomed their cases. We have a jusge here
noting lies, again.
And we have a chain of evidence such as the
Wedge Document and other statements that show
that indeed, they know it is not science.
Because of all of this, I believe they will avoid
taking things to court. They want to avoid courts like
the plague. It was the anti-creationists that use
the courts, and successfully at that. Now creationism
has a track record of deceits found out in court.
This means that the upper hand is with those
anti-creationists willing to go to court. What has
happened and this is subtler, is many states have
cut back on science teaching, keeping evolution out
of schools that way.
I suspect that this is what we will see more of.
New books and courses that cut back on evolution,
and muddy the waters with prissy, mealy-mouthed
double talk meant to obfusticate and confuse.
Creationist watchers have been noting this tendency
for years now.

I think that in the states mentioned, Creationism/ID might enjoy more

willing to sue to get ID in. The chances of finding a more sympathetic

of schools that way.

I suspect that this is what we will see more of.

New books and courses that cut back on evolution,
and muddy the waters with prissy, mealy-mouthed
double talk meant to obfusticate and confuse.

Sadly, I agree. In the name of avoiding controversy, the school boards
and and teachers will play it safe and either not teach evolution, or as
you say teach some watered down version. The schools may avoid trouble,
but the kids and education will suffer for it.

Creationist watchers have been noting this tendency
for years now.

And when other countries surpass us in science, I hope that no one will
be surprised.

I kind of doubt that. We had this in the case
of Scientific Creationism in Arkansas and Lousiana.
There, the lies became central to the case.
Creationism left a trail of evidence that they
knew Scientific Creationism was not science and
was only a ploy to get religion into to schools.

That doomed their cases. We have a jusge here
noting lies, again.

And we have a chain of evidence such as the
Wedge Document and other statements that show
that indeed, they know it is not science.

Because of all of this, I believe they will avoid
taking things to court. They want to avoid courts like
the plague. It was the anti-creationists that use
the courts, and successfully at that. Now creationism
has a track record of deceits found out in court.

I think that in the states mentioned, Creationism/ID might enjoy more
popular support. The fundies themselves in these states might be more
willing to sue to get ID in. The chances of finding a more sympathetic
judge might also be greater.

This means that the upper hand is with those
anti-creationists willing to go to court. What has
happened and this is subtler, is many states have
cut back on science teaching, keeping evolution out
of schools that way.
