Internet Fights Aren't Like Real Ones |
Everyone loves a good scrap. The lust for blood, the excitement of
watching a man get the gigs kicked out of him, the chorus of screams
calling for some poor sap's death are all part of what makes it fun
watching two men punch the ***** out of each other. But fights aren't
always exciting, particularily Internet fights, or flamefests, as
they're called. Surveys are showing that Internet battles are slowly
killing the Internet experience for kids worldwide.
"The internet used to be good, particularily message boards." Claims
Web surfer Scott Gorland. "It used to be, I go on musicianforums.com
to learn how to play guitar and get advice. Now, all you have is
people flaming each other, it's crazy. Like last week, med97 called
dayser a 'Jew spick ***** monkey-arse eating gimp' and dayser responded
claiming he had sex with med97's dad. It was funny at first, but then
their war of words spilled onto other threads, and it ruined
everything. Now, when I go to a thread titled 'Master of Puppets
Solo', I have to sift through countless insults and threats to find
out that some titbag doesn't know how to play it. It's a real *****
off."
Gorland is not alone in this feeling; moderators everywhere find
themselves fighting a never-ending battle between pre-pubescent
keyboard warriors who can barely spell hurling racist and violent
threats across the net. "It's basically a choice between having many
visitors, but lots of flame wars, or a tightly moderated board with
few visitors." Explains bodybuilding.com moderator Ivan_drago. "It's a
real problem, it ruins the atmosphere when you have idiotic 12 year
olds claiming to shoot anyone who claims to out-wang them. It's a
bodybuilding forum, you want to pick fights, get out in the real world
and talk that *****."
"The problem is," Ivan_drago continues, "Is that by banning the
annoying members, it basically leaves you with no one left. And
moderating is a time-consuming and often thankless job, one that never
really ends. Even switching to a paid-only membership fails to weed
out the insecure Internet tough-guys."
Not everyone is for the draconian-like message board regulations.
"It's facist, really." Claims 34-year-old Ryan Stands, an avid and
annoying member of 25+ message boards. "These guys are trying to limit
my freedom of speech, moderators are nothing but a bunch of failed
wannabe-Nazi fanatics. Like, last week, on the Britney Spears forum
and some asshat posted a thread asking for the name of the guy who
took her virginity. I reply 'google muth4 fvcker & k1ll urslf f4g h4g
b1tch' because nothing pisses me off more than idiots who post
questions without first checking Google. Then he replies that I'm 12
years old and need to get laid. Yeah right! So I reply 'fvck u f4g i
k1ll ur m0m & r4p3 ur sister u dumb c0ck, i hope ur f4mily d1ed in 911
u jerkoff'. Then I get banned by the stupid loser moderator, saying
what I said was 'inappropriate' for a Britney Spears forum. Well, if
that's not appropriate, what the hell is? I mean, he should be
thanking me for ridding the forum of losers like that."
----------
The people that respond to me for the sole purpose to flame me are the
people that are ruining what used to be a good place. Thanks for
ruining it guys. I'm sure I'll get flamed for this one, buncha
flamers.
-----
My parents were wrong to name me No, especially when
they knew our lastname was Name. You guys don't even
want to know my middle name, ok you got me, it's Freaking.
My name is No Freaking Name, No Name for short.

For some real fun, check into alt.gossip.royalty. I go there to read

I hate people who run their mouths without any clue what they're talking
about. If you are plonked by somewon, you are no longer able to chat in
their newsgroup, therefore you are banned. Get it?

Well, I plonked you a long time ago, and only saw your post because
someone else quoted you in theirs. So I didn't see you, and everyone else
unlucky enough to not have kf'd you, too, did.
