terrorism will certainly intimidate a large fraction of their
relatives and friends living elsewhere, but some small fraction will
be inspired to acts of terrorism to avenge their dead. You imagine
that everybody thinks alike when you imagine that striking fear into
many people's hearts will stop everyone from acting on the the hatred
such actions also generate. Reality is more complicated. Some small
percentage will get satisfaction by becoming suicide terrorists. And
that is all it takes for terrorism to successfully continue.
As the President has said, they only have to be right once. We have
to be right every time, to prevent a terrorist attack. This is a
description of a losing strategy. In effect, terrorists cannot
practically be defeated or defended against (baring extinction). They
can only be not made, in the first place. You can win this death game
only by not playing. Unfortunately, both Israel and the U.S. (and
many others) have been playing this game for quite a while, now. Your
approach is not a new idea. It is the current policy. And it doesn't
work.

I am not persuaded that it is correct.
For 20 years nobody did jack ***** about terrorism, and look where we are now.
I disagree. For a very long time, the U.S. government (others, also,
but It is not my job to watch them) have behaved very hypocritically,
not living up to our principles. Quite a case can be made that this
behavior has had a lot to do with the generation of terrorist
activity. That is my assertion. I also assert that if such behavior
were to be replaced with just and fair policies and that includes
holding others to similar standards, much of the terrorism in the
world would cease. Terrorism is a response of those otherwise
helpless against perceived injustice. It is righteousness indignation
raised to its ultimate height.
You are fighting an effect without understanding the cause.

The best way to prevent terrorist attacks is vigilance without

Coupled with foreign policy that doesn't create enemies where there
wouldn't have been any, and not demonising entire ethnicities,
religions etc instead of acknowledging the actual reasons why they
hate us.
