Object: Iraq Going to hell in a Handbasket
This article:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/4260170.stm
brings up an interesting question. Who will protect not only the
Mandeans, but everyone else whose faith isn't enslaved to Allah, whose
life isn't tightly circumscribed by ash-shari'a?
Answer: no one.
By definition one religion cannot protect the adherents of another
faith! What incentive is there? Those of other faiths are going to
hell anyway. If they're not, what is the value of the faith you
follow?! No god will help any of these people. Only a secular state
guaranteeing freedom of religion and freedom from religion can do this.
Already Iraq is slipping into fundamentalism. Those of other faiths
are being marginalized, women being pushed back under the dark weighty
burka of oppression. Freedom of expression is non-existent except for
those who carry guns and bombs.
Ironically, people had freedom of religion and women had rights under
psycho-Saddam! But George Bush has taken those things away. They may
never come back.

Special note in case any lying cowardly hypocritical braindead *****
dimwit fucks cluelessly think that Iraqi women had no formal education
under the Hussein regime:
The Iraqi constitution during Hussein's regime specified in 1970 that
women and men were equal before the law. The Catholics don't even do
this today.
The 70s and 80s saw economic growth and a state policy to remove
illiteracy and to educate women, who became some of the best educated
in the Middle East.
Women were able to get jobs and higher education. They could also get
better medical coverage than 40 million Americans can today. Iraqi
maternity leave was **FIVE PAID YEARS** and just 25 years ago, women
could vote and stand for election.
All of this started going down the tubes around the time of the first
gulf war, and now they have nothing.

If you believe that the Iraqi constitution under Saddam meant anything
at all, you're delusional.
However, to be fair, men and women were equal under Saddam's law. They
had no rights at all. Period.

Yeah, right, just like Cubans can, in those fancy state hospitals that
are reserved for foreign guests.

Iraqi

They could vote for Saddam. Or be killed for not voting.

All of this started going down the tubes around the time of the first
gulf war, and now they have nothing.

And now they can *actually* vote in an election that makes a difference.

Yeah, right, just like Cubans can, in those fancy state hospitals that

Not to mention most of the rest of the industrialized world.
Naturally Fred would pick the country that is in horrible condition because
of the way it has been treated by the USA.

Iraqi
maternity leave was **FIVE PAID YEARS** and just 25 years ago, women
could vote and stand for election.

They could vote for Saddam. Or be killed for not voting.

Fred seems to think Sadam was the only elected official.

All of this started going down the tubes around the time of the first
gulf war, and now they have nothing.

And now they can *actually* vote in an election that makes a
difference.

Yeah, they could get blown up just for voting. That's a step down for what
Fred said initially.

Enough. How does that prove that Saddam's government actually
implemented that policy for any but selected members of the elite Baath
party?

Gee, it couldn't be anything to do with the fact that Cuba's a

with the whole rest of the world but not the US.

Earl said "...and a body salinity (same as ocean water)...". when several

Exactly what Earl claims. Even if yours is a blog and ours is the New
York Times you claim yours is right.

That one's not hard at all.
Practically the whole of American mainstream media fail to report
anything but deaths of GI's in Iraq. Not only that, I've shown
*numerous* times where they have distorted or taken out of context
quotes from generals and other military types about Iraq. I've shown
*numerous* times where the full text of a major speech by some general
or the President is *far* different from what was reported in the Knee
Jerk Times.

Earl said "...and a body salinity (same as ocean water)...". when

Your evidence consists of only those things that support your views.
Using this approach a person could claim that their team won the

for. You ignore the evidence that shows they lost far more than they
won.

When you present the evidence of those lost games, I might believe you.

The news of the world is filled with the failures of the US in Iraq
and you present isolated evidence of success.

The evidence that I've presented of that is also in the world media.
It's the *failures* that are isolated stories, while the larger
successes are ignored by the media.
Why do you suppose that so many GI milbloggers, both from Iraq and from
here in the states insist that the media is getting the story wrong? Are
they all being censored? If that's the case, why aren't those censors
controlling the reporters too? CNN let Saddam censor them, why wouldn't
they let the US?
Do you really think that reporting only the number of GIs killed is
getting you the whole story? Aren't you even curious as to what those
GIs were doing when they got killed? What do you suppose the *other*
hundred and thirty thousand GIs were doing? Hiding in the Green Zone?
When I post articles from sites like *THESE*, what do you think?
Lies, all lies? Do you even bother to read them? Oh, they're just
bloggers, what do they know?

Why do you suppose that so many GI milbloggers, both from Iraq and
from here in the states insist that the media is getting the story
wrong? Are they all being censored? If that's the case, why aren't
those censors controlling the reporters too? CNN let Saddam censor
them, why wouldn't they let the US?

Anyone who has been in the military in times of combat knows how valuable
the experience of the individual soldier is when it comes to reporting the
over all picture.
It is similar to the blind men describing the elephant.
But you support what I said. If you agree with it it's valid and if you
don't it's invalid.

Soldiers in combat zones don't have the time or the ability to do such
things. All they see is their part of the elephant.

Proving only how little you have read of the New Media and the first-

Snip and run, namecalling, just the usual lefty denial. You do nothing
but provide evidence to support my contentions.

By Bushian designs.

in light of this, i wonder how the death rates will compare both during
the time of saddam and during this new era. with saddam gone the
psychotic killings are no longer, but will the fundamentalists bring
this nonsense back in the form of fascism?

Not likely. The worst of the fundamentalists are very unpopular because
they're resisting the constitutional process and the elections.

I see. So it's not the blowing people up that makes them unpopular?

That's another reason, but that only affects their enemies. The one
about resisting the constitution is affecting their erstwhile supporters
too.
