Iraq Storm Season Aids Iraqi Rebels |
The Iraqi rebels have managed to fend off the Amerikans long enough for Iraqi
winter to finally arrive. The dust storms the winter brings will ground
Amerikan aircraft and make long-range surveillance impossible, and
nightvision devices work poorly.
In other words, it will level the playing field for a few months allowing the
Iraqi rebels to resupply, bring in reinforcements and strike at the Amerikans
on their own terms.
The fun is just beginning, not for the poor dead U$ cannonfodder though.

You have a faulty memory, let me refresh it for you:
"Soldiers marking maps for the upcoming attack by the US forces' 3rd
Infantry Division (Mechanised) strained to see through the film of dust
that hung in the air inside the dimly lit tents. Those who ventured outside
to the latrines risked getting lost if they stepped more than a metre from
their tents.
Visibility was zero as the sand blotted out the moon and stung the eyes of
those foolish enough to step into the darkness."
http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2003/03/14/1047583702542.html
"The first action of the war for the 101st Airborne Division's aviation
battalions was marred by two Apache Longbow helicopter accidents. One crew
member suffered leg fractures, but three others walked away from the
crashes with only minor injuries.
The two U.S. attack helicopters crashed in blinding dust Friday night. One
crashed on takeoff, the other after returning from an otherwise successful
deep assault on an Iraqi armored brigade about 50 miles south of Baghdad."

As I foresaw a year ago, Amerika's army shall be swallowed up by the desert
itself, all invaders of Babylon shall perish.

I don't see the Americans having the situation under control either.
I would say these guerrillas are surprisingly effective.
I could be wrong but I believe they have claimed the first ever kills
of an Abrams tank, an Apache gunship and a Bradley armored vehicle
(now two). Not to mention the way they seem to drop mortars and

2 Abrams dead:
1 with 3 antitank mines laid on top of each other and all detonated at
once. ;) Clever.
1 with a mystery weapon that left a tiny hole in the hull, somehow
penetrated clean thru the Abrams, then just fried in electronics inside
to Hell. No one knows what it is yet. :D Hehehe.
an Apache gunship
Apache? That is easy to take down, no? Aim a SAM at it. ;)
and a Bradley armored vehicle
(now two).
Actually a number of these suckas have bit hit and damaged. A number of
the crew have been killed and wounded. An RPG can go right thru that
thing and a big enuf roadside bomb sets the sucka on fire. ;)
Not to mention the way they seem to drop mortars and
rockets on our base whenever they like.
Yes, a Robt Fisk article talked about driving back from Fallujah to
Baghdad one night in late Sept. There are like !18! US bases from
Fallujah to Baghdad, and he knew where each one was. The whole way
home, every damn base he passed was under heavy mortar attack. And
firing tracers and whatnot back at the enemy. All the way home, every
base, all 18. The US media tends not to report this stuff. ;)
These guys are smart

fighters of all the Arabs.

I believe the analysis is centering on brand-new Russian RPG launchers
which are supposedly extremely good, but I know little about them.

I really do not think they are that bad. You know, our weapons can
destroy a lot of enemy vehicles so it figgers the enemy is figgering out
how to destroy our vehicles too. I think the Bradley is very good,
quite well-armed, but hey you know, in war the enemy kills a lot of our
stuff. In WWII, the Germans killed a lot of our armor. So it goes.
Actually, often RPG's just bounce off those Bradleys. But apparently if
you hit it right or skillfully, I am not sure....

Well I would not say that the Afghans kicked the Soviet's asses, as 1
million Afghans were killed and 15,000 Soviets. However, the Soviets
did withdraw and give up. Soviet Army was not bad, and I guess this
Russian Army is not too bad, but seems they are short of cash and have
poor discipline. I would not wish to fight against even these

I was a kid too, but it has been widely reported that the military
exaggerated victories and downplayed defeats and generally painted a
rosy picture that did not exist. At one point the military was
claiming that the North had been basically defeated and it was just a
mop-up operation. Then came the Tet offensive with ferocious Vietcong
attacks breaking out all over simultaneously.
