| BAGHDAD, Iraq, July 19 - A working draft of Iraq's new constitution
| would cede a strong role to Islamic law and could sharply curb
| women's rights, particularly in personal matters like divorce and
| family inheritance.

It looks to me like it's the Iraqis who are destroying democracy
before it ever gets started, by trying to create a theocracy based on
Islam.

It looks to me like it's the Iraqis who are destroying democracy
before it ever gets started, by trying to create a theocracy based on
Islam.
The Iraqi government and the secular rule of law was destroyed by a
bunch of Christian fascists who sought to install another puppet
dictatorships under the guise of being a Democracy.
The consequences that we see now were easily foreseen since the Brits
tried to pull the same stunt long before the Republinazis tried it.

Many of those in the government spent years in Iran as exiles, or have
close Iranian ties. The Southern part of Iraq, espeically the cities of
Najaf and Karbala are considred the Shi'ite holy land with many
religious extremists there. Also the Shi'ia were suppressed for many
years under Saddam and now they want payback. I'm surprised that people
are surprised that they didn't see this coming.
