Is America A 'Christian Nation'?
Some politically conservative Christians say that America is "a
Christian nation," and at this time of year, with the country saturated
with Christmas imagery, it can seem that they are right. Are they? Is
America a "Christian nation"? Should it be?
/quote
Those Christians are casually and unrepentantly bearing false witness in
violation of the Ten Suggestions. America isn't a Christian Nation[tm].
It never was set up to be as the Founding Fathers were well aware of the
inhumanities and injustices when superstition rules. The writings of
several of the Founding Fathers, as well as Article 11 of the 1796
Treaty of Tripoli ratified by Congress and signed by the President flat
states the fact.

In our last episode, <kvuj83dr05p7i09hcmuebo2g90887us48s@4ax.com>, the
lovely and talented stoney broadcast on alt.atheism:
Those Christians are casually and unrepentantly bearing false witness in

It never was set up to be as the Founding Fathers were well aware of the
inhumanities and injustices when superstition rules. The writings of
several of the Founding Fathers, as well as Article 11 of the 1796
Treaty of Tripoli ratified by Congress and signed by the President flat
states the fact.
When I was in school the first chapter of American history was the Plymoth
colony with the Mayflower Compact and the second chapter was the Declaration
of Independence. That, of course, was complete ***** by omission.
This is a particularly good year to remember that Plymoth was not the first
English settlement in America. Plymoth was not the first. The Mayflower
compact was of dubious legality. The colony was a dismal failure by just
about every measure. It was an economic disaster, dissolved and reorganized
several times, and finally dissolved in 1691. By the time of the
Declaration of Independence, descendants of survivors were not an
identifiable social, political, or economic force within Massachusetts, much
less in the colonies as a whole. In the meantime, the excesses of religious
rule --- the witch trials, the various exilings and shunnings, and so forth
--- had given Americans plenty of time to conclude that civil government was
best.

Deteriorating weather, terrorism, nations all against us ...
The "returning more so every day" - if it were really occurring, which
it isn't - wouldn't seem to be pleasing to the Christian God.

And that begs the question, Which type of Christian. Are we talking
about the Christians of the Plymouth colony who essentially said "Hey,
let us pray to our god in our own way" or are we talking about the
modern evangelicals who acts much like the King of England and Primate

The true irony is that these totally contradictory notions are

Oh yeah, those Puritans and Calvinists were real pieces of work but I
referring to those like Roger Williams who was exiled from
Massachusetts and goes on to build a religious haven in Rhode Island.
