Is anyone watching Moral Oral on Adult Swim? |
Is anyone watching Moral Oral on Adult Swim? It started as a fairly
enjoyable Davey & Goliath claymation parody, but the new season is
shining a surprisingly harsh light on christian fundamentalism. Recent
episodes include "God's Blunders" where students who question
creationist pseudo-science are deemed to be retarded and put into
special-Ed, and "Obsessions" where christian activists ban any (read
all) enjoyable activities they deem sinful, and then suffer the impact
of banning their own guilty pleasures.
A common event to every episode is that Oral is belt-whipped by his
father in a macabre Ward&Beaver "What have you learned from this?"
scene.
I'm not usually shocked or even impressed by how mainstream media would
present a fundamentalist christian expos=E9, but this show, presented
from the fundie point of view may be the best I've ever seen.
This is on the "Adult Swim" program that airs late evenings on The
Cartoon Network. Moral Oral is usually on Sunday night/Monday morning.

Are you kidding? I has been burning fundamentalism since episode one.
That is the only thing it does.
It is amazing how many shots they pack into a 15 minutes show. I like
the running gag that every time they drive past the local cinema, no
matter what is playing, the Christians of Moralton always find a
reason to picket it.

I won't split hairs. Considering this is mainstream media and a
children's cartoon channel (the "Adult Swim" connotation
notwithstanding), I'd agree with you that its content has always far
exceeded any expectation. However, I think the last 4-5 episodes have
been the best so far, and were way better than the first season. And
this was after I worried that their well may have started to dry up.

It has gotten a little edgier in the second season. I kind of thought
it was taking itself a little too seriously now, but I have liked the
last couple episodes. It's good he is not afraid to change it around
some.
Little Orel got into S&M in the latest episode and Dad didn't know
what to since the belt wasn't going to be effective.
