Object: Is Christianity a crutch ? (am i right in thinking this?)
I'd like to know if it's OK that I think like this:
That the religious / xian types I know, go to church because.. well,
that's what you do, if you're Christian. They aren't hardcore xians.
Most that I know are regular people. My coworkers, friends, family..
they go to church, they live the best they can, they swear, they have
sex, they drink, watch sports, have hobbies, etc. etc.
They're not what I call "extreme" xians, i.e. they can't rip off a
parable from the bible when the situation calls for it.
I'm constantly evolving my way of thinking and views as I learn more
and more about people.
So my view on Christianity has become thus: that i think people use it
as a crutch for lack of a better term, so that they don't have to be
accountable or responsible for their actions. You kill someone, you
punch someone, you molest a child, whatever, you go to confession and
voila! Your slate is all whiped clean! Hurrah! And let's not worry
about the victim, because there life will be better in heaven, this
one is only temporary.
Christianity is like the perfect excuse to get away with anything.
Seems to me. Am i wrong in thinking this?
Oh and I was raised Roman Catholic and had to endure 12 years of
catholic school.

I think you're wrong, mostly.
People seem to get the religion they have from their culture/family.
So, Christians are not Christians because they wanted an excuse to
behave badly...they're Christians because their parents are
Christians.
Religion seems to spread like a virus. It gets ahold of people--
people don't choose to get it.
For the most part, people behave as their genes make them behave,
although they are influenced by their culture. It doesn't really
matter what religion they wear, most folks are basically decent and
will do the right thing most of the time, but will also get away with
some bad behavior now and then. You can try to pin it all on their
religion, but that's not really what's going on, as I see it.

Church has become more of a social event in America these days,
complete with day care centers and rock bands. Most Americans are
Biblically illiterate anyway (the Four Gospels? What are they?) so
they just sit there and swallow what the preacher feeds them - which
is mostly a mixture of Christianity, New Age, Pop-Psychology, Cult of
Happiness/Prosperity/Dollar-worship and empty-headed Patriotism.
All of which has nothing to do with any possible real god that might
exist.
