I report, you decide.

-Duke, explaining why it was patriotic for him to skip out on
Vietnam.

The US had a draft during that period. It could force you into
involantary service, thus could tell you what to do.
The only other time the US can "tell" you what to do is prison.
Other than that it is a free country.

I served as called.

Note the slight shift here. Earl has been telling us the government told him
what to do and now he says the government "called" him.

duke calls that "serve"? Not even his NeoCon bretherens are defending
him on this one.

So explain again how and why the government "called" somebody fresh out
of a second rate school to do something?
How, exactly, were you exempted from the draft?

Yup. He said he worked for a defense contractor. So did I. Working for a
defense contractor on critical programs exempts you from the draft and
counts towards 'service'.
If there had been a draft, I would have been exempt, also, since I was
working on the F-16 retrofit program.
And you?

Where did I contradict myself? You snipped the rest, where I talked about
the recruiter, etc. I was signing up voluntarily...there was no draft. I
didn't want to , but the economy was so shitty when Carter was President,
there were no jobs for someone right out of Tech school. Except for one
employer who's *always* willing to hire the young and inexperienced. But,
I landed a job the day after talking to the recruiter.
I am not military material, and would have been doing no one a favor by
signing up. The Navy should *thank* me.
You also snipped where I said we weren't at war, etc. I was pretty much
Peace, Love and Woodstock then.
When one prospective employer said, 'Your credentials are good, but you
don't have experience", I asked, "Where do I get experience if nobody will
hire me?"
Bet you can guess what he said...
And *you* served in *what* branch?

Who knew, "chickening" out of the Navy counts as "service" in you
little NeoCon lala land.

Never said it counts as 'service', did I? But since you snipped it all
away, you're pretty much at liberty to say what you damn well please, just
like you do with your postings of job losses, etc...
Straighten up, will ya?

Interesting. Woodstock was in 1969 and a fair number of soldiers in Vietnam
at the time certainly thought we were at war.

No, no no. We weren't at war when *I* was draft age, 1975. Peace Love and
Woodstock was a saying (basically used against hippies that were
hipocrites, but you get the reference)

From the little I know of the Navy, it is the least likely of the services
to impose authority for the sake of authority and the one where you can
actually gain responsible positions in fairly short order.

That's why I chose it. The Air Force wouldn't let me *near* a plane, even
as a refueler on a KC-135. The Army and Marines? Ugh...at that time they
were *super* *low* tech, the Navy was the best choice for a young,
hot-shot, would be Communications Tech.
After Boot, 2 years schooling, then 4 years active. And I figured, if I
could stand 6, why not 20? Pretty easy life, eh?
And after the 2 years, come out of school an instant Petty Officer, and in
about 6 months, if you don't fug up, Chief. Not bad.
But not for me...

Candidates aside, most liberals don't really hate America. They they hate the freedom it stands
for and tend to be more like right wing communists. They support the constitution when it
works to their favor then spit on it and the flag when not in their favor. Not much sense of
patriotism either. Ever notice how they like to shout, whine and finger point?? They need to
change their logo to Gimmie' and Takes. Whew! Gimmie' a break!

So it's the liberal's in the Republican party who made efforts to keep 60

And they are the ones fighting to keep words common in our vocabluary from
being heard on TV?
LIberals are responsible for the anti-abortion movement?
I'm so confused, please tell us what other freedoms liberal Americans are

Maybe I, as a liberal, should be supporting the "Patriot Act" which curtails

Or maybe you've finally gotten around to reading 1984 and have started using

Don't worry about chicken little, or even mikey for that matter. They're both known for
stretching the truth to where it is no longer the truth.

BTW, what branch of the military *were* you in, since 'service' is such a

Chicken little is hiding behind his surf board in Seattle. Remember his famous words -

I've used Google to prove you're a liar. Why should anyone believe

Unfortunately, you're lying about his having said that. And, since
you're a proven liar, nobody believe anything you ever say.

He's a natural - a natural born coward, that is.

Unproven and unsupported. Your lies, on the other hand, are
repeatedly proven with evidence obtained from Google. Therefore,
there's no legitimate reason to accept anything you say as truthful.

Too bad you're contradicted by... you:

authority for the sake of authority"
Vash the Loser Stampede

Who knew, "chickening" out of the Navy counts as "service" in you
little NeoCon lala land.

From the little I know of the Navy, it is the least likely of the services
to impose authority for the sake of authority and the one where you can
actually gain responsible positions in fairly short order.

But the important thing is that he... uh... "served"...

Oh, I see, where I said it 'counts towards service'.
Well, it does and it doesn't. If you're working on a sensitive or needed
program, you can be granted a waiver, considering your providing needed
materiel. You're 'serving' in as far as providing what's needed by the
people actually doing the job.
But I was applying that to Duke. It appears he was working for a Defense
Contractor during 'Nam.
Not to me. I was employed during peacetime, when there was *no* draft.
ANd I *never* implied it applied to me...
Do *stop* spinning so, Yang, and *read* what's written...
You're not a fool.

The US had a draft during that period. It could force you into
involantary service, thus could tell you what to do.
The only other time the US can "tell" you what to do is prison.
Other than that it is a free country.

Did the government tell you to go to work building weapons right out of
collage?
How many new grads do you know who were ordered to do so?
Not ask you, but order you to do so?

If there had been a draft, I would have been exempt, also, since I was
working on the F-16 retrofit program.

And you?

I hadn't even finished college when I got the job. Tech school and 5 years
experience.
I'll admit it, I *am* a chickenshit! I would have waived my security badge
at the Draft Board and said, "I work on F-16s". Which is not *always* a
guarantee you'll be spared. Unless I was given a tech job behind the
lines, I would have been a goner. I get confused when too mauch action and
too much noise is around me. Better I go knowing I get killed than
retrofitting one of the most advanced fighters in the world so thet people
who *know* what they're doing can do their jobs?
However, if offered the chance to *jockey* one of those F-16s, well,
that's a different story.
At least I'd have gone out with a smile on my face...
Yeeeeeee Haaaaaaaa!

Earl has realized the error in his statement and switched back to being told

not tell people where to work.
