Is torturing children a "family value"? Is it biblical? |
http://www.southknoxbubba.net/skblog/archive_2005_02.php#3940
You probably heard about the child torturers on the run. They were
captured in Utah.
John and Linda Dollar were picked up by two deputies around 7:30 p.m.
south of Blanding in southeastern Utah, according to the San Juan County
(Utah) Sheriff's Department. They were being held in county jail on
Florida warrants of felony aggravated child abuse.
[..]
The Dollar family included seven adopted children between the ages of
12 and 17. Five of the children have told investigators they were tortured
by the couple, subjected to electric shocks, beatings with hammers and
having their toenails yanked out with pliers.
Deputies who raided their central Florida home Friday found an
electric cattle prod, sticks, belts and a vise that were allegedly used in
the torture, Cernich said. Authorities said the abused five had physical
injuries supporting their claims and were so severely malnourished that
they weighed no more than elementary school children.
``They looked like the photos that we've seen of Auschwitz,'' said
Citrus sheriff's spokeswoman Gail Tierney, describing 14-year-old twins,
one weighing 36 pounds, the other 38 pounds.
And more:
Spradlin says the Dollars seemed to be very religious and she never
suspected they would hurt a child. "Not the way they talked about God and
church and their faith."
And more:
The Dollars owned and operated a private school in an East Knox County
House in 2000 called Mountain View Christian Academy.
What would Jesus say?

The story I read didn't mention religion, but as soon as I read it I figured
they were probably "very religious". I don't think I've ever read one of
these horrific child torture/murder stories that read anything like this:
Acquaintances said "They seemed very secular, as humanistic a family as you
could ever meet." Police found mailers from Green Peace and the Sierra Club
in the home, and say copies of New Scientist and Mother Jones magazines were
strewn across the kidney bean coffee table. In the Dollar's car, the radio
presets included NPR and the local classical music and jazz stations. "They
were quite erudite, and liberal in their views," neighbors said, "You
wouldn't want to bring up the subject of Creationism around them, or they'd
use reason and logic to have you accepting evolution before you knew it!"

Prayer For Children:
Jesus, you asked for the little children to be brought to you; so I bring my
children to you in prayer. I ask you to bless them, to make them strong and
healthy. Fill them with your grace and with your love. Stay with them as they
grow to maturity and help them to learn the virtues of kindness, humility,
peace, patience, love, wisdom and understanding.
Let their parents and teachers be good examples for them; let their
friendships be good and valuable; let their knowledge of and love for you
continue to grow day by day. Grant them a happy life -- now, and in eternity.
Amen.
----------
Pray, hope, and don't worry.
Worry is useless.
God is merciful and will hear your prayer.
-- Padre Pio, Pietrelcina.
