She lives in Tuonela and actually has sisters, three of them, Kivutar,
Vammatar and Loviatar. An underworld goddess, she's the goddess of
illness whose song will bring you to the final sleep. Her appearance is
less than pleasant as she has a black pockmarked face.

Probably not, unles they were in Michagen/Minnisota when the USAF moved
negro airmen up there. I understand the lads were less than subtle about
it.
As to the Finland region, the question arises, well at least two questions
arise. Was it her face alone that was black?
Was it a lack of soap & water?
Were the pockmarks alone black, which is the color of death in many
cultures?
So many questions, so little interest.
walksalone who can plead, dunno to all of the above.
Against my will, in the course of my travels, the belief that everything
worth knowing was known at Cambridge gradually wore off. In this respect

Frozen corpses tend to turn black as the blood congeals. So a goddess
of death and illness from a northern clime might be shown as a corpse.
