One of the things I would like to see coming out of these riots across
the Moslem world is some of a re-thinking of attitudes towards Israel.
Much of the cause of the Arab-Israeli dispute comes from the same
views that cause the current riots. In the late 19th C for the first
time the Moslems in the area had to deal with a non-subservient
religious minority. For the first time in a very long time the Jews
were refusing to submit to the institutional and de jure religious
discrimination across the Arab world. The governments then, as now,
use riots as a political tool. Jewish communities in the "West Bank",
communities that had been there for hundred and hundreds of years were
destroyed. The Arab anti-Jewish violence pre-dates Ariel Sharon, it
predates the 6 Day War, it predates the 1948 war, it pre-dates "large"
scale movement of Jews back to Palestine. All of the excuses presented
for the terrorism and religious discrimination fall apart when the
evidence is examined.

significant population increases every single year. As genocides go

Perhaps you have some special definition of "genocide". Where I come
from if you leave 99.99+% of the population alive it is not genocide.

Moslem Brotherhood has targeted tourists in Egypt, Palestinian
terrorists have done this for years targeting tourists in Israel. But
why stop there, the Arab world has engaged in a secondary boycott of
Israel for decades. That is, they have not only refused to do business
with Israel, they refused to do business with companies that did
business with Israel. The idea, of course, was to economically starve
out the country. Is it less terrorism and less genocidal is the target
survives?

Excuse me? Did you even read your cite? Especially the part where the Israeli
settlers denied destroying the tree and where the Israeli government is part of
an effort to plant replacement trees?
