Object: It is okay to be skeptical
It is okay to be skeptical. I was once skeptical. But it is not okay to
be skeptical to the point of not being open to other possibilities.

Paul merely, simply, concisely, not imposingly, fairly stated a
nice axiom: Try to be open to new ideas. So what was the reply...

No. We didn't call him an idiot because he said "try to be open to new
ideas", we called him an idiot because it's clear he doesn't know what it
means.

If Paul had merely said "Try to be open to new ideas" then that would
not be grounds to call him an idiot. But he actually said:

It is okay to be skeptical. I was once skeptical. But it is not okay to
be skeptical to the point of not being open to other possibilities.

Since being skeptical essentially means being open to other
possibilities, what he said doesn't make sense.

Paul - whoever you are - you argue as if we accepted or rejected
possibilities arbitrarily.
We atheists are guided by reason, not doctrine; because we know where
reason comes from and we can weigh one against the other.
Scepticism isn't not believing in anything - that is cynicism - but
only believing in things for which there is adequate or compelling
evidence. It is simply self dicipline, good faith and good intellectual

Do you even know what it means to be skeptical?
It means that you must see solid evidence before accepting something.
And even after you accept it you must reconsider if new evidence comes
up.

Paul
