It's all a test. |
I have a thought, something for the theist to chew on.
Lets just suppose the xian god is real, for a moment. The single
greatest give he would have give us is our intellect, our wonderful
brain. Now, such a fantastic gift would also involve some great
responsibility to use that gift properly. But the giver of this gift
needs to know who is actually using the gift properly. Makes perfect
sense. If you abuse it, you lose it.
So the creator decides on a test. Not just a simple IQ test, those are
generally problem-solving tests. No, for this test, he would need to
know who can use that brain independently. He decided to make up a
bunch of stories so preposterous that only a true moron would believe
them. He publishes these stories in the form of holy books then put
them out there for a few thousand years. Can you imagine his
disappointment by the sheer numbers of people who simply allowed parts
of that brain to atrophy and swallow the bilge water he made up? To
think they actually believe that a child murder would be considered
"loving"! Of course we went over the blueprints to see where he went
wrong, but could find no obvious problem...just rust.
But, he does notice a small but significant number of people who see
thru the test, as he hoped they ALL would. They made their brains work
to their full potential and came up with the obvious answer, that the
stories were too ridiculous to believe.
Come judgment day, the elite non-believers finally saw that there was
indeed a god. "Relax" god said to them "You were right in not
believing in me, after all that nonsense I put out there to catch the
defective units. Welcome to paradise, you earned it. Feel free to
peruse my virgin catalogue. I'll be back in a while to take your
order. The liquor cabinet is open..help yourselves"

It was pathetic, really, but I doubled over in puerile schoolboy
laughter at the sight of them coming out at the other end.

sense. If you abuse it, you lose it.
So the creator decides on a test. Not just a simple IQ test, those are
generally problem-solving tests. No, for this test, he would need to
know who can use that brain independently. He decided to make up a
bunch of stories so preposterous that only a true moron would believe
them. He publishes these stories in the form of holy books then put
them out there for a few thousand years. Can you imagine his
disappointment by the sheer numbers of people who simply allowed parts
of that brain to atrophy and swallow the bilge water he made up? To
think they actually believe that a child murder would be considered
"loving"! Of course we went over the blueprints to see where he went
wrong, but could find no obvious problem...just rust.
But, he does notice a small but significant number of people who see
thru the test, as he hoped they ALL would. They made their brains work
to their full potential and came up with the obvious answer, that the
stories were too ridiculous to believe.
Come judgment day, the elite non-believers finally saw that there was
indeed a god. "Relax" god said to them "You were right in not
believing in me, after all that nonsense I put out there to catch the
defective units. Welcome to paradise, you earned it. Feel free to
