I've been through the desert... |
When atheists say that they want to go to hell, Christians normally snicker
at them, thinking of how foolish that they are.
But when the atheist says he wants to go to hell, he does not mean that he
wishes to perish in everlasting fire: he is saying that he knows that hell
is part of the Earth, where there is much treasure, as refined in a furnace.
So when an atheist says he wants to go to hell, just picture him desiring to
walk through a hot desert, on his way to a flourishing midnight at the
oases.

Midnight at the oasis
Send your camel to bed
Shadows painting our faces
Traces of romance in our heads
Now the king told the boogie men
You have to let that raga drop
The oil down the desert way
Has been shakin to the top
The sheik he drove his cadillac
He went a cruisnin down the ville
The muezzin was a standing
On the radiator grille
Chorus
The shareef don't like it
Rockin the casbah
Rock the casbah
The shareef don't like it
Rockin the casbah
Rock the casbah
By order of the prophet
We ban that boogie sound
Degenerate the faithful
With that crazy casbah sound
But the bedouin they brought out
The electric camel drum
The local guitar picker
Got his guitar picking thumb
As soon as the shareef
Had cleared the square
They began to wail
Chorus
Now over at the temple
Oh! they really pack em in
The in crowd say its cool
To dig this chanting thing
But as the wind changed direction
The temple band took five
The crowd caught a wiff
Of that crazy casbah jive
Chorus
The king called up his jet fighters
He said you better earn your pay
Drop your bombs between the minarets
Down the casbah way
As soon as the shareef was
Chauffeured outta there
The jet pilots tuned to
The cockpit radio blare
As soon as the shareef was
Outta their hair
The jet pilots wailed
The shareef don't like it
Rockin the casbah
Rock the casbah
The shareef don't like it - He thinks its not kosher
Rockin the casbah - Fundamentally he can't take it.
Rock the casbah - You know he really hates it.

Well, I have never heard anyone say any such thing. And you would be

especially around here. Sometimes, incredibly, people take the *****.

I cannot find a meaning that goes with your sentence.
Atheists look on Hell in the same way I expect you look on
reincarnation: as a concept from someone elses religion, lacking
supporting evidence and having no connection to the real world. At
best, it is a metaphor for really bad experiences. It just isn't
something normal people choose for themselves.
And I don't like the apparent implication that atheists lack a sense
of value. That may be your perception but it isn't ours.
But even without those concerns, what makes you think someone who has
chosen a life of suffering needs you to give them a sense of worth? If
they aren't getting that from their choice, they certainly won't get
it from your post.

therefore a good place to go to avoid them. But that's what we tell

I prefer the bizarre names they give racehorses these days.

You forgot "Dinner" in that list.
Seriously, what the hell kind of horse was this? Nine days without
water or fodder? Methinks the guys in America realized that "Camel
with No Name" didn't scan that well.

As a point of interest, I've heard that the source of the lyric "a
horse with no name" was that people didn't name horses when they
thought the horse wasn't going to survive, so they could think of the
horse as "just an animal" instead of a companion.

Back in the day, the "horse" in America's song was a reference to
heroin. I don't know if that's ever been confirmed.
Interesting trivia: Dewey Bunnell grew up about two miles from me.
We're almost the same age (within six months). But I guess we went to
different schools. I don't remember him at all.

You are the master of the idiotic statement, Mark. I am really
surprised other Christians aren't trying to stop you from
misrepresenting them. If I were a Christian I'd be attaching a
disclaimer to every post you make. Otherwise, from an atheist's
perspective, keep up the good work.
