Object: I've given birth!
After four drafts and 120,000 words thrown in the trash. He's 59 chapters
long and weighs 82,300 words.
Now if I can just con a publisher into buying this sucker...

Congrats!
I'm working on producing triplets...I don't know how many drafts and words
have been discarded...but gestation has taken 9 years so far. Talk about
labor pains...

Sounds like the one I have I've dubbed "the novel that ate my lunch."
130,000 words survived of a quarter million or so and I have a plot
problem. <whimper>
And I wrote the first couple of chapters about fifteen years ago...

Dunno. I *do know taking 12 years per novel would limit one's output
severely (not to mention cash flow).

I suspect that in Tolkien's case, some of those years were spent
summarizing the summaries and bringing some of the descriptions down to 10
pages or less *g*

Well, about all I'm willing to confess to publicly is it's a kind of gay
private detective thing with a bit of an oddball sci-fi element tossed in.
And if I did this right, about a third of the way in or so, I've messed
with the reader's expectations enough they have a "what the hell?"

Didn't Clive Barker do something like that? Not accusing you of plagurism
or anything, but if that sold well you might have an audience.
