Former Ascension Parish Councilman Alvin W. “Coach” Thomas Jr. was
sentenced Thursday to one year and nine months in federal prison for
selling his support of a sewer-treatment for a $900 bribe.

Thomas, who was a coach and teacher and a Baptist deacon, spoke to the
court before he was sentenced, asking for a second chance. “This
doesn’t reflect how I was raised,” he said. “I am a good person who
made a bad decision.”
