After 10 hours of deliberation, a nearly deadlocked jury found a
Jacksonville youth pastor guilty Friday on two counts of possessing
child pornography on his computer.

The jury came to its decision around 6 p.m., but just hours earlier,
at 3:30 p.m., a jury foreman told U.S. District Judge Henry Adams that
the jury was split and unable to come to a decision in the case
against Richard Steven Sweat, former youth pastor at Lake Shore
Baptist Church on Blanding Boulevard.

Pretty much the real-world equivalent, then.

1) He was a former youth pastor. Not that necessarily matters,
but for those seeking journalistic credibility in our society, it was
a cheap shot by the Florida Times Union.
2) A youth pastor is an "actual job." They are taxed, they're
recognized as an occupation by the government, and they benefit our
country. You may disagree with the religion with which their
occupation is based, but youth pastors help so many kids that others
(read: atheist groups) leave behind. Like I said, disagree with
Christianity all you want, but don't diminish the real, positive
impact that youth pastors play in teenagers' lives all you want.
3) If you're asserting that your worldview and moral structure is
superior to that of Christians (whether you openly admit it or not,
you believe that it is; we're no different), then why don't you
refrain from kicking someone when they're down? Rich Sweat was a
friend of mine. He was a supervisor at the Best Buy I worked at, and
he was my boss at the valet service that he ran. He was open about the
accusations being laid against him, and was a genuinely nice person
who everyone respected. Also, keep in mind that the jury was split and
deliberation was over 10 hours. I think we can all agree that just
because our legal system finds someone guilty, doesn't mean they
indeed are. I'm not saying Rich is innocent (believe me, only him and
God knows), but the case was far from open-and-shut.

How did they sentence him then?
No one can be sentenced if there isn't a unanimous verdict of guilty from a
jury.

"Steve Sweat"?

Or a youth pastor, as it turned out.

So, you claim that you "know" that a non-existent sky-daddy "knows"

Michael,
No, I don't "know" that the Creator I believe in "knows" only because
I don't know God exists. "Believe me" is more of a figure of speech
basically saying that I believe something to be adamantly true. Now,
if this "sky-daddy" does exist, then absolutely He knows whether
something like this is true or not. Whoever created all of this (it
wasn't the "big bang"), probably is powerful enough to know if a
person is innocent or guilty in a trial.
Of all the points I had made in those three main sections, your attack
on the existence of God shows how little you care about the person
being discussed here, and more about the religion he represents. Of
course, that's the bigger issue anyway, I suppose.

While that made partial sense, it answers nothing whatsoever, and
amounts to an unreal word-salad.
Utterly devoid of any real meaning.
Next...

Of all the points I had made in those three main sections, your attack
on the existence of God shows how little you care about the person
being discussed here, and more about the religion he represents. Of

Delusion, not "religion".

course, that's the bigger issue anyway, I suppose.

It sure is.
Which is why I raised it.
Pity you did not address it head on.
But then, I get the impression that you are lying to me.
What gave it away to me was that you clearly hold irrational and
infantile delusional views "the Creator I believe in", yet carefully
and obliquely sort-of deny such a thing in your subsequent slimy
weaseling.
I can only repeat my previously unanswered question: Are you mad?
1) Yes.
2) No, I know that belief in Gods is utterly irrational and insane.
Which one is it, Robert?

Yes, religion is the issue. Religion promotes hatred, religion is
opposed to personal freedom, religion attempts to force all into one
belief system. Of course any one that holds the same beliefs, as you
will appear to you to be a nice guy. Every one thought the BTK, serial
murderer, was a nice guy. Until he confessed.
As to the existence of any god/s, it's based on belief instilled by
early and through brain washing. Which is the job of youth ministers.
So all youth ministers, abuse children, by incorporating them into
religion. Teaching them that their beliefs are the only true beliefs,
and others have to be wrong, if mislead. This is bigotry, and
instilling bigotry in children is abuse.

Robert,
Many Youth ministers are child molesters? What statistical evidence
can you give to back that up? That's what I love about these anti-
Christian websites; you disregard the thousands upon thousands of
great, yet not perfect, pastors and Christian leaders who have
committed their lives of furthering the cause of Jesus Christ and the
helping of others and have instead focused on the handful of wolves in
sheep's clothing that give Christianity a "black eye". Of course, it's
all done to help comfort your hate of a religion that preaches non-
hate, while ironically saying that it supports hate and bigotry, which
you just did. Wow, did I just make an ignorant, blanket statement?
Sorry, you're contagious.

Robert,
How does my religion preach hate? Can you give me a Bible verse that
promotes that? You may be able to string together something out of
context that might mildly support your claim, but any kind of
exegetical approach to the Bible will show that your statement is far
from accurate. Shoot, let's not even stop at the canonized Bible; I'll
give you apocryphal and other non-canonical books. Go for it, dude.
Find me something.
You probably went to a legalistic or just plain foolish church that
was entirely overly-judgmental on people, and you just couldn't handle
that. So, you take it out on the object of the faith because of the
actions of some of its presumed followers. I can't say I blame you;
it's tough not to think that what one church teaches is characteristic
of all churches.
Michael Gray,
Do you REALLY think Jesus of Nazareth never even existed? Wow, sir,
it's one thing to say that he wasn't who he said he was, and that the

you've slipped into a realm of conspiracy theory syndrome that is
nearly impossible to get out of.
What about Flavius Josephus? Oh, right, that was "forgery."
What about the hundreds of people who were willing to give their life

of Jihadists who give their life for their cause; the earlier
Christians died for something and someone they encountered first-hand.
Or let me guess: those people never existed either? Did Pontius Pilate

Michael,
So, let me guess you do not believe in the wind either? I mean you
can't see the wind and you claim that no one that you know of has ever
seen Jesus! I have never seen the wind either, however I have seen
the effects of the wind. Do, we as humans just discount what we
haven't seen with our own two eyes?
I hope that someday you come to terms with all the hatred that you
have towards God, and Christianity.
As for the whole issue of Richard Sweat. I was at the trial and sat
through the closing arguments. The man is innocent! The FBI
interviewed over 75 youth that had worked with Richard and not one of
them even had a compromising comment to make about him. The FBI
exonerated him of all charges and the only reason why this went to
court is because of the porno that was found on his computer, that by
they way was never viewed by anyone until the case started. So, you
know a man will go to jail for having someone put something on his
computer that sat in his living room where everyone that came into his
home had access too. I pray that you never have to go through what
Richard is going through. And amazingly if Richard could respond to

Michael,

So, let me guess you do not believe in the wind either?

I have heard that utterly stupid leading question a hundred times
before, and dealt with it extensively.
The wind can be measured, has been measured, is palpable, and so on.

I mean you
can't see the wind

I can see the wind.
Use cross polarised sheets and it shows up beautifully.
Are you ignorant of basic science as well as reality?

and you claim that no one that you know of has ever
seen Jesus!

Yes, I claim both of those very things.
For very good reason, too.

I have never seen the wind either, however I have seen
the effects of the wind. Do, we as humans just discount what we
haven't seen with our own two eyes?

Irrelevant question begging.
We have endless quantities of hard evidence for the wind, but
absolutely zero for your Jesus, or any gods for that matter.
To compare the two amounts to deliberate fraud.

I hope that someday you come to terms with all the hatred that you
have towards God, and Christianity.

How can I "hate" something that doesn't exist? (Your 'gods').
I do hate the negative behaviour that is so often displayed by
Christians, including your downright rudeness implicit in the
assumption that if I do not share your positively infantile delusions,
that somehow I am inferior!!

As for the whole issue of Richard Sweat. I was at the trial and sat

And juvenile.
Do you still write letters to Santa?

And amazingly if Richard could respond to

you.

He does not require my permission to be stupid and do something
utterly pointless.

Before you judge a man that you don't know, please get all the
facts of the matter.

You could do the same.

You state that Christianity promotes hatred and
bigotry, but sire that is all that has come from you on this topic.

Even if that were true, it in no way affects the validity of my claim:
That Christianity promotes hatred, bigotry all the way up to genocide.
Christianity trains one to accept outrageous lies without question,
and thereby enables totalitarian despotism.
All involuntarily subsidized through my taxes via your obscene tax
exemption.
Christians are responsible for Abortion Clinic bombings.
Heretics should be tortured if not killed outright according to St.
Aquinas, and St. Augustine.
Even the moderate style of so-called "Christian" discourse, (which it
is not, as any reading of bible will confirm), gives cover to radical
fundamentalists. The respect that is accorded faith prevents rational
adults from taking them on.
Paedophilic rapes and molestations of minors by priests are
increasingly being shown to be endemic.
These crimes are aided and abetted by church officials, to the point
of tacit support.
Christians who do not speak out against this are clear accessories to
the crimes. (Ignorance is not an excuse from now on.)
This group of accessories to crimiinla offenses no doubt includeds
you.
Rape by Christian husbands committed against their wives is common,
and done in the name of church supported male superiority.
Suspecting spousal abuse in others and ignoring it is a crime.
The crime of the ritual mutilation of infants is religiously inspired
and a biblically supported crime of the most egregious type, and
widespread in Christian congregations.
Again, supporting this offence by remaining silent or worse:
encouraging it, is a crime in itself.
Have you committed the crime of not speaking out continuously against
your church's ritual mutilation of male infants until the barabaric
practise is halted?
Christians have a church supported history of fraudulent holy relic
rip-offs.
"Conversion" to Christianity is regularly used by canny prisoners to
assist in early parole or release.
Much medical harm is done in the na
