Every Sunday, the members of Christ the King Church in North Olmsted
entrusted Lionel Crell with counting the money from the collections
baskets and depositing it in the bank.
And for seven years, Crell performed the task while skimming off about
$300 each week for himself.
Last month, Crell, 60, of Olmsted Township, pleaded guilty to stealing
more than $110,000 of the church's money from 1999 to 2005, after
church officials used a hidden camera pointed at the counting table to
find out why bank deposits didn't equal contribution statements.
