Portsmouth Police arrested a man in a seven-year-investigation into a
man's brutal beating death.
James D. Whitfield, 25, surrendered to police Monday and was being
held on no bond.
Whitfield was indicted last week in the death of Renaldo Grant, 28, a
hairdresser found beaten in the Prentis Park neighborhood in 1999.
According to the Virginian Pilot, Grant's family said he was targeted
because he was gay.
