Minister Sentenced For Teen Sex Attempt
Man Pleaded No Contest In February
FAIRBORN, Ohio -- A minister accused of trying to arrange a sexual
rendezvous with a teenager on the Internet changed his plea and was
sentenced Tuesday.
Rev. Roy Burton, a 55-year-old pastor, has been in the community of
Milford Center since 1983 and was charged with importuning and
attempted unlawful sexual conduct with a minor.
Burton pleaded no contest in February and was sentenced to one year
with the Department of Rehabilitiation and Corrections.
"If you're not being truthful with them, there's no way they can
appropriately treat you or have you treated and appropriately
supervise you on community control," said Judge Timothy Campbell.
Fairborn police arrested Burton in November 2005. Detectives said
Burton traveled from Milford Center in Union County to Fairborn to
meet with a 15-year-old girl.
Instead, Burton met an undercover detective. Police said, from the
conversations, it was clear that he wanted to engage in sexual
activity.
Burton's attorney asked the judge for community control sanctions
because there was no prior record.
"I realize that I'm wrong and I'd be willing to do whatever it takes
to do whatever I need to do," Burton said.
Burton will also be required to register as a sexually oriented
offender for the next 10 years.
"We were told he'd get probation. He's a minister. He loves kids. He's
not going to do no wrong," said Norma Lee Kuhn, the defendant's
cousin.
