Jason Gastrich: Not waving, just drowning |
http://www.iidb.org/vbb/showthread.php?t=118609
<snork> Jason is now hopelessly lost in his own circular argument.
Having asserted that the Bible is inerrant and the ignored any
rebuttals of this, he continues to rely upon quotes from the Bible to
support his argument that belief in God is reasonable. Then, almost as
an afterthought having realised this is how his latest submission will
be seen, he resorts at the end to trying to fling a few grenades into
the debate.
And Doug is meant to respond to this without resorting to ridicule?

But he's doing the second-best thing he could be doing. Thinking
critically would be the best thing he could do, but I'll settle for
leaving alt.atheism.

"Contrary to the fantasies of the fundamentalists, there was no deathbed
conversion, no last minute refuge taken in a comforting vision of a
heaven or an afterlife. For Carl, what mattered most was what was true,
not merely what would make us feel better. Even at this moment when
anyone would be forgiven for turning away from the reality of our
situation, Carl was unflinching. As we looked deeply into each other's
eyes, it was with a shared conviction that our wondrous life together was
ending forever."

I thought he had left ? he hasn't been heard of in a.a. for months ...
BTW ..... this was posted in the Peanut Gallery the other day by 'Son of
Fred' ....... what do others here make of it ..... ? ...... I mean the
'family trouble' ....not the fact he's losing the debate..... could it
be his past is catching up with him ? .......
" Over at JCSM Watch, we've been aware of certain domestic issues going
on outside of these forums and in the life of the Gastrich family. It's
not an illness or death or anything like that, so we don't want to
overemphasize the issue, but it's serious, nevertheless. In light of
that, I respectfully suggest that some latitude be granted. Far be it
from me to have much sympathy for Gastrich, but on the level of human
compassion, it's something we should all consider. I don't think that I
am at liberty to discuss Gastrich's personal issues in open forums, so I
won't get into details, nor will I explain how it is that this issue
came to our attention. I think that's only fair, however, I do
respectfully suggest that, if Gastrich asks to withdraw from the debate
for personal reasons, I think that should be allowed without prejudice.
There's no doubt that Gastrich is losing this debate--badly--but if he
were to withdraw under the present circumstances, I would certainly
never hold it against him. Of course, I can only speak for myself, but I
also think that it's not beyond Gastrich's character to complain later
that the personal issues outside of this debate caused him to "lose." He
would never admit to being intellectually outclassed, and his tendency
to allow for any evil as a "lesser evil" if it suits his ends would
allow him to make excuses later on, should it come to that.
It's not up to me, of course, and I'm sure Gastrich hasn't really
mustered up the humility to ask or, perhaps, even consider that he
should withdraw and concentrate his efforts on real life issues. But the
moderators and Doug Krueger may have other ideas. I throw it out only
for due consideration."
