"Hiscoming" <hiscoming@btopenworld.com> astounded us with:
news:c54lre$f5c$1@titan.btinternet.com:
"Oh woe is Jesus, the world is full of terrible people, what can I do to fix
this?
I know! I'll allow myself to be killed, then they'll be sorry, then, while
they're all crying about me, I'll be brought back to life a few days from
now, that'll fix it".

Then he was an idiot. If all of christinanity depended on me, and my being
nailed up and tortured to death was "all that was needed" to save
you...your asses would be on your own.
However...if you want to go that way, I'll sell you the lumber and the
nails. Or the rope.
Buh-bye, punk.

But what if YOU could save him? If you could go back in time and
successfully rescue Jesus from the crucifixion, would you do it?
In other words, do you believe your salvation is worth the torture and death
of an innocent person?

Then it's a clear case of suicide--which seems odd, because I thought
suicide was supposed to be a sin.
So here are some obvious questions: If some suicide prophet kills
himself to save you from the monster god central to some other
religion, would you feel indebted to him? Would you consider that
proof that the monster god is real? Would you consider his suicide a
good reason to switch religions and worship both the suicide guy *and*
his monster god? If it turned out the suicide guy was actually just a
sock puppet of the monster god, and further that the whole suicide
show was a special-effects fake-up, would you still feel indebtedness
to the sock-puppet?
Actually, nevermind what you would do. What do you think a person
with any sense at all would do?

Absolutely. My dad's in constant pain, has been so for well over a year, is now
bedridden and will live out his remaining years in complete and utter misery.
According to your myth, what Jesus went through only lasted a couple of hours.

Do you consider being beaten to a bloody pulp a temporary inconvenience as
well?

Going through months of chemotherapy, three operations, and endless
weeks of vomiting and hair loss was horrible. But it ended. I beat
my cancer, my hair grew back, and I'm back at my pre-cancer level of
health.
That was worse than a day of being beaten. It was, in fact, a
temporary incovenience. I giot better, it took years, but I got
better.
The Jesus myth has him suffering for *one day* and dying. A really
bad day, to be sure, but he got better. Hell, he became God according
to the myth! Compare that to what I, or any cancer patient, endures
just to be human again.

But say this Jeebus guy really was what loony woman says he was. A being
of infinite extent in space and time would be bothered by some small human
body sized part of it being beaten by some puny humans for a brief period
