Possibly. However I think you *impute* way too much into the request. So
far as I know, Buddha doesn't care (he's in Nirvana with *no* cares),
Allah is very particular about who you reverence as God but you can
"believe in Jesus" all you want (as a prophet). Krisha probably says,
"Jesus who?" he's also in nirvana, but with many women.
At any rate, what's the price of a little belief? You can be a closet
believer and here on alt.atheism you can be as rude as, well, a
congressman denouncing pedophilia while keeping a page on the side.
If you believe in no god *at all* then you've pretty well closed all the
doors; sort of like Pascal's Wager but trading a 1 percent chance of
getting it right (a guess of the odds of "believing in" the right god) to
a 0 percent chance of getting it right.

Boy, howdy! I'll agree with you there!
So
far as I know, Buddha doesn't care (he's in Nirvana with *no* cares),
Allah is very particular about who you reverence as God but you can
"believe in Jesus" all you want (as a prophet).
Well then, I wouldn't be believing in the Jesus character as the son of god
then, would I? If I did, then I would end up in the Muslim hell, if that
were the true state of affairs.
Krisha probably says,
"Jesus who?" he's also in nirvana, but with many women.
Sweet. So which god are you arguing for?
At any rate, what's the price of a little belief?
My integrity. My honesty. My morals.
You can be a closet
believer and here on alt.atheism you can be as rude as, well, a
congressman denouncing pedophilia while keeping a page on the side.
Then I'd be a hypocrite, and sacrifice my integrity, honesty, and morals.
Something I'm not willing to do.
If you believe in no god *at all* then you've pretty well closed all the
doors; sort of like Pascal's Wager but trading a 1 percent chance of
getting it right (a guess of the odds of "believing in" the right god) to
a 0 percent chance of getting it right.
Maybe there's a really great afterlife waiting for those who kept their
intellectual integrity. That's as likely as any of the other religious
afterlife schemes. So imagine that I'm following a path that will lead to a
great afterlife just as long as I continue to disbelieve in it, and thereby
maintain my intellectual integrity.
Besides, many gods supposedly get mad if you believe in the wrong god, and
you might end up with an even worse fate than if you didn't believe in any
at all.

You seem a bit confused. Nirvana isn't a place, it's a state of
non-existence. Allah will indeed send you to Hell if you reverence
Jesus as divine. And Krishna's abode is not Nirvana, but Goloka
Vindavra.

Mankind has posited tens of thousands of god/s, making the odds much,

I like to ask people to consider what if the actual, One True God was
worshiped thousands of years ago by a small group that had no written
language and died out.
Particularly people that believe there is an evil force ("satan" for
example) trying to mislead people. That alone implies that the major
religions are creations of a deceiver meant to draw as many as possible
away from the real god.
Christianity is particularly hoist by its own petard given that the bible
names the Jews as god's chosen people to be the repository of his truth
but Christianity *displaced* Judaism to become one of the biggest
religions on the (fallen and corrupt mind you) Earth.
It would only make sense if the faith of "god's chosen" were to be
attacked that one good tactic is to *take over*. Send a false messiah and
rewrite the whole thing, claiming to have "fulfilled" god's law.
Hm...

Well, what do religions generally say about people who fake belief?
Actually, Pascal was seriously wrong. If you're just going through the
motions "just in case", you'd be in worse position than just being
atheist. What's that part of the bible that says (paraphrasing) "I would
you were hot or cold but since you were lukewarm, I spit you out"? Or the
bit about "We did all these things in your name" but Jesus replies "I
don't know you" and tosses them out?
If there is a god and it can be so easily fooled, why not wait until
after you die. Then if you run into this god, say, "No, no, I believed in
you the entire time. Really." To which he'd reply, "Duh, otay!"
In fact, having been raised fundamentalist and practically drowned in
theology, I think even now--years later--I could make a good case that
believing for the sake of saving your own skin from hell isn't going to
cut it and a lot of people who think they're "saved" aren't really
because it's all about themselves and their faith isn't anything
meaningful.
Either way, any god that could be so easily fooled isn't one to worry
about as he's not much of a god...

Why would I believe in Jesus? So I can become a pathetic sniveling

do is start these threads and run away. Do you have a shred of

Believe in Jesus, the son of the God, who died on cross for our sins.
The one who believe in Him will have eternal life in paradise after
death.
Are you the one who believes? You are one lucky sumvabitch,
then. Us mere mortals will have to resort to technological means
to achieve eternal life in paradise *before we die.
Although I'm quite skeptical about the need of
achieving a life in eternal paradise after death,
I still don't approve of having it *before we die*...
I'm not entirely sold on the idea, but I'm willing to at least try it
out.

Albert Einstein once said in his famous theory
