Judge Upholds Oregon Gay Marriage Ban |
To the LLL ( Looney Liberal Left ), this is the equivalent of heresy; the
will of the people has actually been upheld by the courts. It's no longer an
issue of who's right and who's wrong, the issue is now does the will of the
majority over-rule liberal dogma? The answer is a resounding "Yes".
http://www.guardian.co.uk/worldlatest/story/0,1280,-5393263,00.html
Judge Upholds Oregon Gay Marriage Ban
SALEM, Ore. (AP) - A judge on Friday upheld a gay marriage ban adopted by
Oregon voters last year, rejecting claims that the amendment made too many
changes at once and interfered with local government.
In his ruling, Marion County Circuit Judge Joseph Guimond backed supporters
of the law who said the measure only clarified marriage law in a single,
simple sentence.
The Oregon amendment, passed overwhelmingly in November 2004 as Measure 36,
reads: ``It is the policy of Oregon, and its political subdivisions, that
only a marriage between one man and one woman shall be valid or legally
recognized as a marriage.''

It IS persecution. It's forbidding gays from enjoying the right to marry. As
it stands, marriage (outside of Massachusetts) is a special right tat only

Mayor West in Spokane, WA.
And get this -- he's now suing the local paper for printing the story.
Why, you ask? Because he claims the reporter "invaded his privacy."
After all, he claims, he was having private conversations which didn't
involve his job.
Of course, he was offering city jobs (funded by taxpayer money) to
young and possibly underage gentlemen in exchange for sexual favors.
From the tax-payer purchased computer in his office, which he had
furnished with tax-payer money, while he was supposed to be at work,
doing his job for which the tax payers pay him. And let's just forget
that his Internet access was also being paid for by tax payer dollars.
But hey -- it was an invasion of his privacy. <eye roll>
Of course, it is poetic justice that he's been outed. When Mayor West
was in the WA state senate, he voted NO on every gay civil rights
issue, claiming that private acts that his fellow RepubliCUNT
christstains didn't like shouldn't be condoned by law. Now he's trying
to wiggle out of his current dilemma, claiming that his private acts
(which weren't so private), of which his fellow christstain
RepubliCUNTS don't approve, should be overlooked. But just in his
case, because for him it's private. For anyone else, it should be
legislated against.
I just adore the folks in charge of cosmic irony!

You are comparing apples and oranges.
Not so. Religion, ethnicity, and sexual orientation are all commonly
recognized as issues of potential discrimination under the law.
Deporting Jews is the removal of
rights or persecution.
As is denying a subclass of people the right to a civil marriage, obviously.
The only reason you don't see it that way is that you're prejudiced and
hate-filled. Sad.
Enforcing the ban on gay marriage is not removing
anyone's rights nor is it persecuting anyone.
No one but the gay people, of course.
Gays are not forbidden to have
relationships
Unless that relationship is supposed to be a marriage. Then they are, right?
Why?
or have their own seperate communities, if that is what they
wish. They are not banned from marrying a member of the opposite sex.
But they are banned from marrying the people they choose to marry. Why do
you think it's a good idea for the government to be involved in the
mate-choosing business?
What
the voters have stated is that they do not wish to change the laws
acknowleged by societies for as far back as history has been recorded.
This is either ignorance or a lie; one never knows with a right winger. But
civil marriage has been available for same-sex couples since at least
ancient Greece, with ceremonies even being performed by the church until
relatively recently.
When you write " even for gays like yourself ", are you using it as a
slur?
Seems strange coming from one who criticizes me because I don't parrot the
same liberal nonsense most others do.
Yes... the idea that everyone should be treated as an equal under the law
and that the government has no business deciding who can marry whom must
indeed sound like nonsense to someone like you.

Several steps above you, though.

So, if the majority believes all Jews should be deported, do you support
such a deportation? After all, it is the "will of the people". Sorry, but
the US is a Republic, with a constitution that protects EVERYONE from a
tyrrany of the majority, and guarantees EQUAL RIGHTS for all, even for
gays
like yourself.
You are comparing apples and oranges. Deporting Jews is the removal of
rights or persecution. Enforcing the ban on gay marriage is not removing
anyone's rights nor is it persecuting anyone.
Yes it is! It is removing the rights of some adults to marry the
consenting adult of their choice.... it flies in the face of the concept
of EQUALITY before the law.
Gays are not forbidden to have
relationships or have their own seperate communities, if that is what they
wish. They are not banned from marrying a member of the opposite sex. What
the voters have stated is that they do not wish to change the laws
acknowleged by societies for as far back as history has been recorded.
That's where you are wrong. History records same-sex marriages in the
past.... this is hardly a new idea, just one that has been repressed by
religionists and control freaks.
