Strictly for fun.
I mean, it's not as if anyone *with a mind* cares either way about this
ancient pap...

Oh I don't know. I think it takes a little imagination to believe in such
stories.
Some of the stuff I like is the translation errors which don't get mentioned
much. One of them is the Hebrew word for 'young woman' which got translated
as virgin. Change that and it gives a whole new slant to the tale, doesn't
it ?

Indeed! I've seen that one teased out in detail, and it's fascinating. And
it's also quite astonishing that the 'Bible' goes on being discussed by
'religious' people as if such corrections somehow don't need inserting and
facing up to...! Somehow everyone who 'believes' seems quite happy that
highly specific and apparently important elements of their 'faith' have
completely broken free of the documentary basis, such as it is, and are
floating about, quite 'ungrounded', because they're ideas that people find
appealing...! I mean, you can't have it *both ways*....!
I tell you: if I won the lottery or something I'd spend my first million
putting up an absolute *killer* of a web-site: side-by-side translations of
the 'Bible' and assorted 'Apocrypha'; cribbed and redacted texts analysed by
experts; 'Biblical' history and geography examined with maps and charts;
collated source criticism; the *works*... Something *even better* than
www.jesusneverexisted.com
and
www.skepticsannotatedbible.com !!

In Discordance with the Scriptures: American Protestant Battles over
Translating the Bible
by Thuesen, Peter J.
Narrates a fascinating chapter in church history, as American Protestants
belatedly confronted the difficulties of basing ecclesiastical authority on
a sacred text when the very wording of that text had come into question.
Scrupulous scholarship provides a much-needed historical context for the
fiery polemics of clerics who turned the new translations of the Bible into
a battlefield for liberal and conservative factions.

Why do people continue to stress the bible as something wonderful. It is
a collection of campfire stories for ignorant parents and gullible
children. It is amazing that most fundies arguements vanish into
nothingness without the bible. Critical thinking requires several sources
for an idea to be even worth consideration yet these bible thumpers take
one source and base all of their beliefs on it. I wonder when, if ever,
the human race will no longer need a god. Maybe if this pope does
something incredibly stupid, then people will see the light and learn to
stand on their own two feet instead of relying on the crutch called God.
It really is rather sad. I wish I had seen the light a decade or two
earlier. I would be in much better shape financially, psychologically,
and physically as well.
If most christians would play a game of "What if there is no God" and
"What if the atheists are Right" for a month or two, I wonder what would
happen. They could also play the game "What if all bibles vanished
tomorrow and one could not recreate it". There is also the game of "What
if evolution is what God used to create man?" Humans are so limiting.

Hey Katt, didn't you know that the bible is the infallible word for
God. It has no "contradictions". They have all been answered by the
great apologists ;)

Their arguments *are* very convincing . . . if you are already convinced.
For some reason, they are less convincing to the skeptic.

I thought the Q'uran was the infallible word of God.
If I don't think that, I'll be killed.
Islam is a beautiful religion.
