The usual sickening *****.
You know, I find it especially... well... amusing how this "no atheists in
foxholes" loadacrap perfectly collides with another mantra we keep hearing
from (all too often) the very same numbnuts.
What do I mean? Have a look at

Why not, when she is helping to spread false and
possibly harmful, bigoted lies about people? Would
you also allow her to yell "Fire!" in a crowded theater?
If she is saying harmful, lying, bigoted things about

job, maybe she'll learn to think before she opens her

We all know there are no atheists in foxholes.
My father was an atheist. In WWII he was shot through the ankle by a
German sniper. It took him a couple of hours to get out of the line of
fire by slowly crawling along a plowed furrow that was just barely high
enough to block him from the sniper's vision. He would probably have
given a lot of money for a foxhole at that point, but he certainly
didn't give into deluding himself that there was some God that was going
to somehow miraculously save him. He relied on keeping his head and butt
down and just kept crawling.
Isn't this a free country? Can't she speak her mind?
Straw man - like anybody claimed she didn't have the right to do so.
You 0.4% of this country are going to lose.
I'm not trying to "convert" anyone to atheism, so I don't see the
difference between atheists and theists as some kind of contest to be
lost. There are always going to be some non-believers. I am grateful
that I live in a place and time where I can openly and freely express my
non-belief without fear of retribution from believers. If you are
intimating that "this country" is going to become a theocracy and
non-believers like me will be forced into silence (or worse), then I
agree that may be possible. I suppose the U.S. could become the
Christian version of Afghanistan under the Taliban, in which case
atheists would certainly lose their freedoms. And if atheists lose their
freedoms then, as far as I am concerned, everyone would be losers.
I don't expect anything I say here (like pointing out that I know from
my father's experience that you are factually wrong that there are no
atheists in foxholes) will have the slightest affect on your attitudes.

God provided for him.

Explain why your god didn't provide for the soldiers that were killed
by snipers.

They were possibly atheists and didn't listen to God.
Hey, I don't know. I'll ask Godthe next time we sit down to a cup of coffee.

You wont believe this!!!!!!

Isn't this a free country? Can't she speak her mind?
Straw man - like anybody claimed she didn't have the right to do so.
And we're allowed to use our own freedom of speech to call people like
her the bigoted liars they show themselves.
Like yours my father was in WW2. He was a Lancaster bomber crew, which
had an extremely low survival rate. He joined up as an atheist and was
demobbed as one at the end of the war.
What happened turned him into a pacifist, not a believer.
He wouldn't talk much about it, and I got most of it after he died,
from my mother. But it explained a lot.
He'd started off in RAF Coastal Command, doing coastal reconnaissance,
dropping rubber rafts etc. Which is what he had always talked about to
me as a kid.
But he'd also mentioned that survivors of action were the ones doing
things about it and not just praying. Also that many of the survivors
became atheist.
I also remember seeing aerial photos of bombed railway yards where
trains of refugees had been parked. And his response that these things
happen in war before he changed the subject.
I was born in London after WW2 and grew up seeing bombed out
buildings, daily reports of unexploded bombs etc, and even riding
trains with pitted windows and sides from bomb-shrapnel. That coloured
by view of war, particularly attacks on civilians by the military and
from the air.
After he died my mother told me he had been transferred to Bomber
Command because they were so short of crews. And that he had been
speaking first hand of these things.
Couric was repeating one of the more stupid, vicious slanders about
atheists. We are no more likely to appeal to her deity that she would
suddenly pray to Zeus.
People like her are both stupid and nasty with it.
You 0.4% of this country are going to lose.
Out by a factor of 40. it's approximately 15% of US population.
It's all about live-and-let-live. Most atheists only have a problem
with believers who can't do that because they imagine their beliefs
should be universal.
I don't expect anything I say here (like pointing out that I know from
my father's experience that you are factually wrong that there are no
atheists in foxholes) will have the slightest affect on your attitudes.
Nor me.
Ted
