*sigh* Such a stupid ruckus over such a dumb non-issue.
If only he'd actually spoken what was written, there would be even less
to apologize for.

Yeah, but that's what American politics has become. Who can make the biggest
fuss about the other guy. I do think there is a partisan difference,
however. In Kerry's case, it was apparently an honest mistake, though you
look at the original version and you can't really see it as being much
better. Even stranger, the heart of Kerry's mistake was the truth. When I
was in the service many years ago, most of the volunteers I served with were
somewhere between dumb and dumber, though at least none of them were the
dumbest--though I've heard they've lowered the standards quite a bit
recently, since they desperately need those warm bodies for Iraq. (And no
one notices when they come home cold.)
In contrast, the latest big neo-GOP gaff was substantively based on serious
factual crimes--but from that hint you can't even figure out *WHICH* one I'm
talking about, since there have been around half a dozen that qualify as
"big". I suppose I'd have to pick Foley as the biggest, but that might be
equivalent to most bemusing. In further contrast, let's consider Dubya. On
one hand, it's okay for him to joke about searching for WMDs that our troops
died looking for, and on the other hand it's okay for him to pump his fist
and "feel good" about starting a war. Excuse me, but no matter how badly a
war needs to be fought (and that one did not even need it), there is no
excuse for feeling good about it. Dubya enjoyed sending our troops to their
deaths. Truth doesn't get uglier than that.
However, in current American politics, the only thing that matters is how
the MSM spins it.

Are you a rational Republican? Have you become an oxymoron? Please look
at "Shall we discuss why Bushevik trolls hate democracy?" and think
about it before you vote. (Formerly "The vile spewers of mindless
blather" thread.) Vote Democratic--for the changes America needs.
Dubya has puppetized America into debating torture as though it has a
pro side.
"The things that will destroy us are: politics without principle;
pleasure without conscience; wealth without work; knowledge without
character; business without morality; science without humanity, and
worship without sacrifice." - Mahatma Gandhi
True, but in Dubya's case it's [bad] character w/o knowledge and
humanity w/o science. Still destructive.
The truth alone will not make you free. However, it is one of the
prerequisites. Unless you know the truths underlying your options, you
cannot choose in freedom, whether you're buying shaving cream or a war.
Busheviks are simply slaves to BushCo's lies.

Especially the kidnapped one he ordered us to abandon.
