CBS Won't Deny Kerry Link to Forged Docs
In a development that could have devastating implications for John Kerry's
presidential campaign, CBS News is refusing to say whether the top Democrat,
his campaign aides or any other prominent party officials had anything to do
with supplying "60 Minutes" with a National Guard memo about President Bush
that experts say was forged.
Asked about a Kerry connection to the forged memo, a senior CBS official
told the New York Post, "I can't answer that question."
The unnamed CBS executive then promptly hung up.
Since Wednesday, when he first aired the Bush Guard document as authentic,
CBS anchorman Dan Rather has steadfastly refused to identify its source.
Ruling out the Kerry campaign, however, certainly wouldn't violate that
confidentiality pledge.
On Friday, Democratic National Committee Chairman Terry McAuliffe vehemently
denied that his office or anyone at the Kerry campaign was involved.
"No one here at the Democratic National Committee had anything at all to do
with any of those documents," McAuliffe told reporters. "I can unequivocally
speak for the Kerry for President Campaign Committee, nor do they have
anything to do with these documents. Absolutely not."
It's unclear whether McAuliffe had actually investigated a possible Kerry
link to the forged documents or was just offering his opinion.

Nope. I'm referring to Usenet postings -- anyone can post anything here and
pretend it's meaningful. Of course, when an attribution is not provided,
it's impossible to judge the credibility of the source. I'm sorry you were

Who said the documents were faxed to CBS?
CBS faxed them to the WHITE HOUSE who released the documents to the
press without questioning their content or authenticity.
Is the White House releaseing forged documents these days?
What typewriters does Karl Rove own or have access to?
Can you unequivocally prove that Karl Rove didn't create these
documents sent to CBS?
If you can't prove that Rove didn't, it must be true.

I think they probably are, yes.
That means it was an attempt to smear President Bush by unjustly libeling
him.
Yes and no. It appears to have been an attempt to strengthen the already
growing pile of evidence and testimonials that indicate that Bush's entry
into the Guard - and service there - involved the pulling of strings and
leverage of influence.
I would prefer that the letters had not been part of the CBS report - it
would have been a much more effective piece had this bit with the letters
not smeared the legitimate evidence that Bush is a lying, shirking, fratboy
scumbag and always has been.

The documents have effectively been proven NOT to
have been forged, so this entire article is just a waste
of time for everyone. The font used in the article and
the spacing was in use throughout the 1940's. The
articles are authentic. Shrub can wriggle all he wants,
but the fact is, he didn't complete his obligations to the
National Guard. He's not just an AWOL draft dodger,
he's a deserter. He should have gone to prison or been
sent to Viet Nam, but Daddy got him out of both. He
definitely shouldn't be President now or ever.
