CHICAGO, Jan. 18 (UPI) --
Police unarm toddler with loaded gun
After Chicago police unarmed a toddler holding a loaded gun, officers
arrested the man who admitted leaving the child home alone with the
gun.
"As we walked into the bedroom we observed the 2-year-old child
holding a revolver. 358. It was loaded with two live rounds ready to
shoot. If he would have pressed trigger, it was chambered ready to
shoot," said Police Officer Frank Mack, of the Chicago Police Dept.
"I went around the kid ... I put his arms down and my partner took the
gun from his hand."
Police officers arrested the man, whose name had not been made public,
for possession of marijuana and child endangerment as well as other
charges, reported WLS-TV in Chicago.

A 358?
I've heard of a 357, a 38 and a 380, but not a 358. Is that, like, a 357
that holds an extra round?

There is a .358, but it's not a revolver round. Somehow, I find the
idea of a two year-old managing the stiff DA pull of a .357 a bit
unlikely. Unless of course our idiot gun owner also left the thing
cocked? The most likely culprit here, though is the complete
ignorance of firearms so many cops manifest. It's a bit disturbing,
really, considering that they're required to carry them.

uh, sorry, dont know too much about JRR Tolkien.. i happened to have gotten
laid before my 35th birthday and then i sold my springfield comic book shop.
i thought it was made up ***** like
klingon. anyways, who speaks that *****?
Nowhere near as many as speak Klingonese.
klingonese had a purpose: to get die hard trek fans to continue watching
their show (as it allowed for continuity, which trekkies are constantly, and
annoyingly, i might add, bitching about), and to sell books like "how to
speak like a retarded cave man". it's basically a marketing ploy from
paramount.
esperanto, very loosely speaking, had a purpose: to occupy some nutjob with
attention deficit disorder and/or oppositional defiance disorder, who hated
every language and decided he needed to create his own. the few people in
this world who bothered to learn this "language" suffered from various and
sundry psychological and social disorders as well. i presume this person
who created "esperanto" (which is just a bastardized romance language; how
original) will eventually get around to creating his own religion.
and i'd also like to add that no language is legitimate unless there is an
established body of literature and some form of culture (other than
anarchical peabrains) which utilizes it. there is no established history
with esperanto. the only established history with regards to esperanto is
"jimmy suffered from ADHD and lived in his mommy's basement. then jimmy
said, 'i'm going to create my own language!'"

Tolkien tried to create those languages in such a way that they were

beautiful to native speakers of English!
Zamenhof was probably more concerned with other aspects of his language
when he created Esperanto, though I must say that to me it does not
sound too bad when properly pronounced (somewhat like Italian).

Those are well-known facts among connoisseurs of Tolkien's works, but it

I'm curious as to the speakers of what languages the Black Speech
might sound appealing to, also the Dwarvish tongue (Khuzdul, IIRC).
Also to whom the Elvish languages would sound ugly. Frankly, I'm
basically curious as to why I find Esperanto so unappealing, and the
answer is probably wrapped up inside those questions. (As far as the
Black Speech is concerned, I've always found it more ominous than
ugly, if that makes any sense, particularly in the Ring inscription).
Then, of course, there's other languages less fully developed, like
Entish...
Tolkien probably liked the
sounds of Finnish and Welsh, so he patterned his Elven languages on them.
He famously wrote of happening across and reading through a Finnish
grammar, and feeling quite as intoxicated as if he had drunk a bottle
of wine... ;-)

...Frankly, I'm
basically curious as to why I find Esperanto so unappealing,...
I find Esperanto to be the auditory equivalent of rice cakes. It has
no real "flavor". It's bland. For some, that's a positive point. For
many others, it's a turnoff.

As a matter of interest, what language is that? Dutch? Flemish? I was
attacked by a goat in Amsterdam once, but that's another story.
Actually, it would appear to be esperanto. Why they are posting in
esperanto, only the poster can answer.
esperanto is a real language?
Perhaps the ugliest ever devised, to my ear, but that's just my
opinion. Now if you want to hear some beautiful "created" languages,
either of JRR Tolkien's Elvish tongues (Quenya and Sindarin) are a
good place to start
i thought it was made up ***** like
klingon. anyways, who speaks that *****?
Nowhere near as many as speak Klingonese.
I think that part of the problem is that no one is a native speaker of
esperanto. Everyone will speak with their own accent. I think the best
speakers of the language might be spanish, italian, or
portuguese...then any other "romance" language.. I think esperanto
might derive mostly from latin. They look and sound like those to me.
Hearing is in the ear of the beholder. I thought that german couldn't
sound good....then I heard a gorgeous young german woman in Frankfurt
speaking her language...and ooooh man! Rrrrrrrow!

for that matter, what is wrong with french? or latin for that matter.. latin
is what all the romance languages are based on (and english by extension),
and at one time was the lingua franca...
english is simply too gutteral and backwards. it sounds like trailer trash.
at least german attempts to sound intelligible.

if you've ever heard "jewish" people speaking "hebrew", you'd note that some
languages are objectively and unanimously perceived as obscene.

Surprise! According to the Ethnologue, there are on the order of a
thousand native speakers of Esperanto.

english, albeit a crude language with horrible grammar rules and the most
inefficient syntax of any, has a history and an established body of
literature. english has people that actually SPEAK THE FUCKING
LANGUAGE!!!!!! "esperanto", or what i like to call "*****-latin" has nothing
more behind it than "jimmy the retard in the basement decided to make up his
own language".
hell, /EBONICS/ is closer to a real language than your fucking
socialdisorderese! and that's nothing more than bad english spoken by lazy
blacks and retarded white suburban kids (like jimmy)!

No, not in the same sense. English is more live a living
creature. If English were likened to a deer, then Esperanto
would be a robotic elk. :)
