Killer to serve time for 1987 slayings

Patricia Rakes of South Boston will spend seven to
10 years in prison for her role in two 1987 murders
that were unsolved for more than a decade.

Rakes was one of three people convicted in the
murders of Needham couple Jay Schlosser and Heather
Buchanan, who were blindfolded, bound and shot
in their Westwood apartment. She had pleaded guilty
to two counts of manslaughter and was sentenced
yesterday. Her brother, James Rakes, was convicted
in the killings last week and the triggerman, James
Ridge, was convicted last year. Both are serving two
life sentences.

Norfolk District Attorney William R. Keating said the
families of the victims "despite almost two decades,
can now continue to go forward in their lives."
