Korean conflict = GOP gains |
North Korea says they tested a nuclear weapon.
Watching CNN, initial seismic reports were negative,
with no way of confirming the test. Later reports
claimed 4.2 on the Richter scale, with the Whithoouse
itself confirming a test.
Whatever the case, The Republicans now have their
crisis.

I read this morning that another Navy task force was being sent to the
Persian Gulf touching off speculation that they were going there to
attack Iran. Do you think that now they'll be ordered to change course?

I would be a bit surprised.
Things tend to happen when super powers are busy
elsewhere, and Bush has to assure the Iranians (and
everyone else) that events in Korea aren't an invitation
to do as they please.
Besides, any "Blockade" of north Korea would, more
than anything, have to target oil. Why stop the ships
at their destination -- close to north Korean jets and
anti-ship missiles -- when you can stop them at their
source?

We also have a lot of other forces in Japan and close by. I also recall
reading that Bush sent more B-52s to Guam. I suppose that if he sticks
to the original plan, we can have our 'October surprise' in either
theater.
