GOP CONSULTANT SENTENCED
Thursday, October 12, 2006 - FreeMarketNews.com
Leon Abramovitz, described in a Pittsburgh Post-Gazette story as a
"veteran GOP consultant," was sentenced Wednesday to a five- to
10-year prison term, for luring two male college students into his
home, and related crimes.
He was convicted in July on charges of theft, coercion, false
imprisonment, unauthorized practice of law, simple assault, indecent
assault and "making terroristic threats" against the two University of
Pittsburgh students, whom he allegedly lured into his home with the
promise of jobs tailored to their career goals. Previously, he had
plead guilty to earlier offenses, involving the kidnapping of a
teenage boy and a 27-year-old, in 1999 and 2000, respectively.
He reportedly attempted to gain special treatment, telling the judge
he "feared for his safety" after inmates in his pod at Allegheny
County Jail learned of his crimes, began calling him a "baby raper"
and threatened to have inmates at the state prison "take care of him."
However, the judge reportedly noted that Abramovitz "chose to
victimize two people while on probation for the very conduct" he was
previously convicted of engaging in. "It's your verbal prowess that
poses a danger to society. As long as you are able to speak, Mr.
Abramovitz, you are a danger to society." - ST
