Object: Law Enforcement and Belief in God
In frustration, I wrote the following letter to the Tempe, Arizona
Police Department upon hearing of the illegal behavior of the Arizona
Department of Public Safety (DPS). I *don't* believe the DPS should
act in the manner described below, but they unfortunately already
have. This suggestes to me that they don't believe in God:
"Dear Tempe Police:
Please investigate the Arizona Department of Public
Safety (DPS) on the following criminal matter:
The recent homicide committed by the Arizona DPS of a
47-year-old man traveling to Payson brings to mind the
lawlessness of the Old West and the former Arizona
Territory.
Like Wyatt Earp's illegal vendetta against the
citizens of Cochise County, the Arizona Department of
Public Safety should be held 100% accountable for the
illegal homicide of a United States Citizen by one of
their own officers.
The judicial system should file capital murder charges
against the DPS Officer involved in this most heinous
act of barbarism and cruelty. Additionally, the Chief
of Police for the Department of Public Safety should
also face criminal charges in this matter.
When police officers illegally commit murder on our
streets, there is no longer justice but blind anarchy.
I have already contacted the FBI, the Royal Canadian
Mounted Police, the White House, the Scottsdale
Police, the Phoenix Police and other agencies
concerning the illegal and heinously barbaric actions
of the Arizona Department of Public Safety committed
against a law-abiding, innocent citizen of the United
States.
I believe the Arizona DPS should be A) disbanded B)
stripped of all accreditation henceforth and C)
prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law allowable.
Contrary to popular police opinion -- examples: Daniel
Lovelace recently shooting to death an unarmed woman
in a parking lot; Mesa PD's recent shooting death of a
mentally ill man in front of his family, etc. -- it is
*illegal* to commit murder against an unarmed citizen
of the United States Of America. Additionally, it is
*illegal* to tamper with evidence and hinder the
prosecution's case, even if it is investigating law
enforcement itself.
As a citizen of these United States, I do *not*
tolerate police officers committing acts of murder
against unarmed, innocent civilians. This isn't 1st
century Rome, people. You can't just execute someone
for the hell of it. I would have hoped that in the
21st century people would have learned not do such
heinous acts. Apparently we are now no better than the
ancient Romans, who crucified people for shoplifting
and other minor offenses.
I *beg* the Government of Tempe to fully investigate
the illegal actions of the Arizona Department of
Public Safety and to, furthermore, consider filing
complete and formal charges against the DPS with the
Maricopa County Attorney's Office.
The sooner crap like this is stricken from our
society, the better. I studied Sociology in college. I
know the difference between right and wrong. Police
must think the average citizen is fucking stupid. We
aren't fucking blind and we aren't fucking deaf, okay?
Thank you for listening.

Paul"

Well, that's one point in their favor....

And how, pray tell, does one *legally* commit murder?

You may not be fucking stupid, blind or deaf, but anyone reading this rant
is liable to think you're a fucking loon.
Those are some pretty serious charges, Paul, but even if true, what the hell
does it have to do with belief in god or lack of it on the part of the
Arizona DPS? Belief in god has never prevented some people from committing
all sorts of atrocities, including murder. In fact, it's more often been a
justification than a deterrent.

Thank you for listening.

Paul's been posting on talk.origins for years; in his more lucid
moments, he'll freely discuss his mental illness.
