Legislator wants highway signs in Texas to mention Bush
AUSTIN - A legislator from McKinney has introduced a bill that takes
pride in the place President Bush calls home.
Representative Ken Paxton wants all "Welcome to Texas" signs erected
along interstates, U.S. and state highways to also say: "Proud to be
the Home of President George W. Bush."
Paxton and Bush are Republicans.

I agree. We should lay the blame at the right place. The sign will probably
read:
"Welcum to Texass. Prowd to be the Home of Prezidint Gorge W. Bush."

Funny, though, that they don't care about Bush Sr, or Lyndon Johnson -- but
then, their presidencies weren't anywhere near the disaster of DUHbya's.

I also find it interesting that this Ms. Howie seems to imply that moving from
Texas to New York City is a sign of weakness. Last time I checked, NYC was the
city that survived a horrific attack by terrorists that killed 3,000 US
citizens. Seems like a pretty damn strong place to me, and good company for
other strong people :)

Well, he did live there much of his life, has a ranch there, his kids were
born there, his wife was born there, he was Governor of the state and his
parents also live there...that's pretty close to being a Texan. Like the
bumper sticker says, "I wasn't born in Texas but got here as quickly as I

And Bush is a "strong Texan" as well, is he? He's about as Texan as a
polar bear.
just like hillary is about as much a new yorker as zell miller.
And just like Liddy Dole is a South Carolinan.
right. she's from north carolina.

That was a typo.
She was registered to vote in Kansas until she decided to run for the
Senate. If you're criticizing Clinton for running in N.Y. (as is allowed
under N.Y. law), you have to criticize Dole for the same thing.
But then consistency has never been the wingnuts' strong suit.

One of the reasons Clinton won her senate seat is because she dominated the
vote in upstate, which is typically a GOP stronghold. The carpetbagger issue
backfired on the GOP because in the 1998 congressional elections, Republican
Tom Reynolds campiagned and won in a district where he did not reside (Bill
Paxon's old district, now the 26th New York...he lived in what was then GOP
colleague Jack Quinn's district) and didn't even bother moving to until the
next summer. Clinton at least purchased a house and began residency long before
the election. It also helped her campaign a great deal that her Republican
opponents (Rudy Giuliani and then Rick Lazio) campaigned about as intelligently
as a box of rocks with the smart rocks taken out and looked utterly clueless in
position statements and debates.
The Republicans would repeat their residency hypocrisy when ***** Cheney made a
change of residency which was on paper only to fulfill the letter of the
constitutional requirement that the presidential candidate and
vice-presidential candidate not reside in the same state.

And this is from the party which is allegedly the party for "small government"
and fiscal responsibility. This sounds like a big-government liberal spending
spree to me.
