How does letting our State decide what unions are allowed, the start of
establishing a state religion?
How could more freedom and liberty be served by freeing up our religions,
to establish their own unique policies?
Could not those that believe that there is only male female sexuality
establish only male female marriages for their religions and those that
believe that there is a wider range of physical and psychological sexuality
decide to establish that belief for their religions or spiritual paths?

"Let churches decide about same-sex marriage"
http://www.fredericknewspost.com/sections/opinion/displayletter.htm?storyid=39256
The News Post reader who claims that Massachusetts has "forced" gay
marriage on the citizens of that state must have been riding the elephant
in his living room.
There is no law that requires same-sex marriage, only one that permits the
registration of these intimate partnerships under secular terms.
If Maryland prohibits marriage between same sex couples, it will be
prohibiting those churches that do accept same-sex unions from performing
ceremonies to sanctify these bonds. After all, Jesus promised one and all
that he would be present whenever two or more would gather in his name.
This amendment is just another way of saying officially, "Sorry, Jesus, you
can't be here. There are homos getting married in there!"
Do we really want to unravel 400 years of American tradition by instituting
laws to regulate religious belief with the consequence of imprisoning those
who disagree with the state religion or worse yet slaughtering millions of
Americans wholesale? Maryland is, after all, "The Free State."
If marriage is a religious rite, its control does not belong in the hands
of secular legislators or law enforcers. Remove the homophobia and
demagoguery from the issue and the solution is very clear. The government
should affect no laws that endorse or deny the rites of marriage to any
individuals, leaving each congregation to determine whether its view of
God's will, not man's will, accepts these acts of love.
The state under the same authority as that which controls legal agreement
and partnerships would allow any two people to legalize the terms of their
union without prejudice for what happens between them in the privacy of
their own homes. If the two acts coincide with the faith and love of the
couple, so much the better: That letter writer's way still won't make gays
disappear from God's creation which is what he really wants. That will only
come about through pain and bloodshed that no Christian can endorse.
