I'm sorry that Mr Reagan has Alzheimers, but if he didn't I expect
that both of the Reagans would fully support the ban on federal
funding of this research. Hypocrites. Who said that people who
protest against such research should be denied its benefits?

This point might generalize. Possibly anti-stem-cell-research will
remain politically popular only until the Boomer generation (and older
ones) grasp that _they_ get to pay the price in the form of
infirmities and diseases that won't be cured without it.

Don't blame the boomers. Blame the religious yahoos currently in
control. My sister, a boomer, detests George Bush and her son is his
biggest fan. My elderly aunt, a good union member, detests Bush.
Her boomer son, my cousin, who owns his own business thinks Bush is
great. I sympathize with my sister and tell her that children always
disappoint their parents. An observation I can make even though I
have no children. BTW, I think my cousin is getting a feel for the
short end of the free enterprise healthcare stick as he has been very
ill and has no health insurance. I don't think the political
composition of the boomers is that much different than previous
generations. It is true, I think, that people tend to get more
conservative with age. The trick is not to lose your heart while you
do so. If you do not have any good sense to go along with it, heart
will do little good.
