Well, the point I was making was that we don't get very many Muslims
coming into aa looking for a fight (presumably they're, ah, occupied
elsewhere...), and when we do, they tend to present things like that
bit in the Qu'ran that is said to tell about fetal development. Very
dull.

How can it possibly? Islam is a religion, and has over 1.3 billion
members from dozens of countries and ethnicities?
When people call them, and hindus, camels, cameljockeys, donkeys,
donkeyriders, towelheads, diaperheads, etc. those are all cultural
references. Stamping and claiming it as racism is social blackmail.
Do dutch people crash airliners into skyscrapers when you make fun of

No. And neither do Muslims as Muslims per se.
They do it because of two things: the US reneging on a promise to the
unwilling Saudis that troops would only be stationed in the Islamic
Holy Land until Hussein was out of Kuwait, and US support for a
country created on land taken from Arabs and their treatment of those
Arabs who want their country back.

Let's keep things in perspective...

Yes, let's. The only part of it that was directly Islamic, was that
they regarded themselves as martyrs.
The administration demonised all Muslims, instead of addressing the
reasons we are so disliked in that region.

Damn straight we are. A lot of them are nazis, pure and simple.
Probably worse than the nazis, because the majority of germans just
'went along with it'. Most muslims are absolutely convinced everything
in the quran is true and will stake your life on it.

Is atheism restricted to non-Christians, or can non-Muslims, non-Jews,
non-Hindus join?

Most people here are Anglo-Saxons and so most of their religious experience
is about Christianity. It's not closed-mindness.
However, I agree that we should constantly be made aware of various
religions.

True, but we don't get many Muslims, Jews or Hindu
fundamentalists hanging around here. Janoo, A Hindutva wacko of the
first stripe, was our last six-armed-smurf worshipper, and he
disappeared about three years ago.

They sure do.

You have to be all 4.
The reason you mostly see anti-Christian stuff here is because it's
mostly Christians who pester us, here. Personally when I write
something against "xians" I mean all of them. Including people who
take astrology and other superstitions seriously.

First, (atheist or Christian) Americans don't interact with Muslims
much (even American ones). This means that, as a rule, they don't know
enough about Islam (recent events notwithstanding) and don't feel
threatened by it (above and beyond terrorism). There is also the
political correctness factor, since we feel guilty, because we are so
raised, when attacking a racial/ethnic/religious minority viewpoint.
These two factors explain somewhat why the majority of the liberals
(as well as atheists) seem to be more accomodating towards Islam than
Christianity. Of course there is the spite factor, as I have observed
some atheists are prone to accomodating, if not siding with, Islam
because it pisses off Christians, which are seen as the real evil.
Actually, the more exotic a religion is, and the more guilty (for
unrelated reasons) we feel towards it practicioners, the more respect
it gets. Hence, attacking absurdities and sillinesses of tribal
religions, religions of aboriginals and natives are pretty much a
taboo for today's civilized western man.
In short, familiarity does breed contempt and the other end of the
spectrum gets kid glove treatment.

Those people aren't bothering the ***** out of the 'residents' of
alt.atheism like christians do. However, on the occasions they do
they get the same derision for the same reason christians do.

Atheism is nothing more than the lack of theism.

I think it would be a good idea.

Muslims are responsible for most of the terrorism on earth today. They
do so for religious reasons. If you disregard them because they
aren't "bothering the ***** out of" you, you're pandering to their
religious beliefs at the expense of innocent people.
There should be no recognition of any personal religious views today
by any representational government.
To do so will only take the civilized world back into the stone age.

You have a point: All religions are silly, but Islam is an exceptionally
ridiculous and despicable one. We just don't get as many Muslims as
Christians posting here; possibly because they don't speak English, although
a large percentage of the population in Muslim countries is illiterate
anyway.
