I read a short story a long time ago on the now-defunct "Jeremy Jacobs
- yeah whatever" website. It was about an android who, like most of his
civilization, was infected with a parasitical program which controlled
his entire existance, manipulating him with guilt, shame, and
self-hatred. Different versions of the program would fight against each
other, apathetic to the damage that the fighting did to the androids.
Eventually the android found the courage to take an antidote to the
program and found himself free of its influence.

If anyone knows where this story can be found, please post a link or
paste the story here. I had it printed out but never got around to
typing it back in and it got accidentally thrown out the last time I
cleaned my place.
