Man in a Purple Dress |
<quote>
How dare you wear a robe to preside
How dare you cover your head to hide
Your face from God?
[...]
You are all the same
Gilded and absurd
Regal, fast to blame
[...]
Men above men, or prats
With your high hats
You priest, you mullah so high
You pope, you wise rabbi
[...]
How dare you?
[...]
Your staff, your stick, your special cap
They'll protect in Hell? What crap!
Believe the lie
How dare you be the one to assess
Me, in this God-forsaken mess
You, a man in a purple dress
A man in a purple dress.
</q>
(Pete Townshend, "Man in a Purple Dress"; from the album /Endless Wire/
[Universal, 2006])
Those who want to see the rest can probably by now find the lyrics
on-line, or even download the song; but as a 40-year Who, fan I'd
strongly encourage you to support the lads in their old age by buying
the new album.

I agree. I was looking forward to the album with more than a little
trepidation, but it's actually the best thing they've done since "The
Who By Numbers" as far as I'm concerned. Definitely worth buying.

I'd say Endless Wire is better than Face Dances & It's Hard. "Purple
Dress" is good, quite biting.
