Object: Manufacturing Hamburgers
In yet another attempt to pull the wool over the eyes of Americans, the
Bush Administration now wants to classify making hamburgers at
McDonalds, Burger King, Wendys, etc. as ³manufacturing.²
The Bush Administration thinks everyone is as stupid as they are. They
hope people will buy the idea that making hamburgers and alike should
be classified as manufacturing so that they can claim an increase in
the creation of jobs to the manufacturing sector. Now, only a moron
would accept such a thing, but apparently the Republicans have just
those types of followers. After all, a few years ago they hoped to
classify catsup as a vegetable in order to avoid feeding poor children
their free school lunches.

My definition, are they assemblers? a manufacturer would be creating the
components and the McDonald's/Burger King/Wendy's etc. etc. would be the
assembler.
Btw, has GWB ever thought of the good old fashion, "removing red tape"
as a way to win back manufacturers? talk to companies and what do most
of them moan about? the red tap, the metres and metres of red tape they
have to contend with on a daily basis. If it isn't the tax, it is the
numerous laws made up, with no real basis, which strangle their business.
Btw, this "off shoring" of jobs can be all placed on the idiots who
promoted the "strong dollar policy". Strong dollar is great if the wages
decrease to maintain cost parity with the rest of the world OR some how,
through divine intervention, US workers are magically 3x more efficient
in terms of output per-hour.

The difference is with Bush Senior is that he kept the current crowd
away from the white house. IIRC, he and his staff referred to them as
the "nutters". Funny, several years later and now his
barely-able-to-read son is now taking the nutters advice.

But they're right. All the news will say is "Manufacturing jobs rose
x.x percent for the quarter surpassing projections of (less than x.x)
percent. Analysists see this as an indicator of a strengthening economy.
And turning now to California, Laci Petersen is still dead."
That isn't cynicism. That _is_ the level of news in the U.S. now. And it
is win/win. If people buy that things _are_ better, then Bush is a
genius. If they hear things are better but aren't seeing it in their
lives, it must be the liberals or homosexuals or God's wrath (because of
the liberals and homosexuals).
Win/win. If all you cared about was power, wouldn't you do the same thing?

No *****.
Last Thursday, I quoted the structural steel for a new middle school in the
Hutto ISD. (Hutto is a town in the greater Austin area.) The owner of the
fab shop that I quoted it through, Shug, had gone to a contractor's meeting
for all interested parties.
Shug's shop is approximately six miles due south on the same road that the
school is being built on: FM 685.
One of the interested contractors, a representative for a shop in Mexico,
had the unmitigated gall to corner Shug and make the comment "You have an
advantage because you are so close."
Shug lost it. He basically told the guy that he (Mexico shop) can get away
with paying his people $10 a day, carry no workman's comp or liability
insurance, and have a shitty and dangerous shop, so he needed to shut up and
get away from him (Shug).
Not that it'll do any good, but at least Shug got it off his chest. The shop
in Mexico will come in with a price that is lower than the *cost* of doing
the project with US companies, so we realistically don't have a chance.

Funny you mention workman's comp or liability insurance, why does the
government run a national compensation insurance scheme like NZ has with
ACC http://www.acc.co.nz/ , oh, btw, the minimum wage in NZ is $8.00 and
hour which is around US$5.50-US$6.00 an hour. Why should we be punished
because we have a favourable currency?

And funny, when you hear whiners in the first world, these same people
are quite happy to purchase their $10 T-Shirts when they *COULD*
volunteer to purchase a T-Shirt made in their own country.
The fact is, for all the whining of the protectionists, none of them are
willing to purchase products made in their own country, they apparently
need to be FORCED by government to purchase them.
Btw, in regards to your diatribe about China, a man in New Zealand
PROVED that you can make socks for the same price as importing them from
China. He runs a sock factory on the west coast of New Zealand and on
average it only costs companies 5cents more purchasing the socks off
him. What did he do? controlled costs, ensured he had the most modern
machinery he could, and setup a factory in a location with low over heads.

Mayor Gavin Newsom on Saturday accused President
Bush of political showmanship and discrimination
after the Social Security Administration announced it
wouldn't accept any marriage licenses from San
Francisco -- gay or straight -- until the same-sex issue
was resolved.
"I think it was political and retaliatory," Newsom said
in an interview after his first town hall meeting since
taking office 52 days ago. "The president is not only
now discriminating against gay couples, he's
discriminating against straight people."
Newsom said his administration looks forward to
arguing the constitutionality of same-sex marriages
before the California Supreme Court.
On Friday, the high court declined a request by
Attorney General Bill Lockyer to immediately shut
down San Francisco's gay weddings -- more than
3,400 such ceremonies have been performed since
the city began issuing the licenses two weeks ago.

klinton blunder - Haiti.

Now anytime you would like to reasonably discuss a subject, I'm here.

Yeah - President Jean-Bertrand Aristide was elected in Haiti's first
free and fair election by the majority of the people. Bush hates it
when that happens.

Yeah - President Jean-Bertrand Aristide was elected in Haiti's first
free and fair election by the majority of the people.

And then he became another dictator, using criminal gangs and terror
tactics upon his opponents, even stacking a Senatorial election which
even the UN had to agree was not acceptable.

Bush hates it
when that happens.

So does any right-thinking American.
