Mark Bilbo & other party poopers |
It took longer than I thought, granted, but someone
finally noticed...
I said when the whole CBS documents mess hit the
fan that the only way these things could be forgeries
is if a bunch of Bush documents were also forged.
Well, here you go:

Unfortunately, CNN (and even CBS) won't be allowed
to report this.

Nobody'll go near it now. Not after that other fiasco.
That was the big problem with those pathetic forges, they'd take down any
and all stories about Bush and his Guard service.
Gee, what a *great job Rather did...

No. The big problem with all these forgeries is that they all come
from the exact same source.
Gee, what a *great job Rather did...
Dan Rather's mistake was in the angle of the story. His source
didn't forge the documents.

Hmm.. maybe it *was* the Bushies that forged them then, since they'll
end up being the net beneficiaries...

No, I think it more likely that anti-Bush people purged Bush's records
of embarrassing documents, only to wait five years then leak forgeries to
the press.

I imagine the exact same people who kept them from so much as
noticing Bush's long-since-refuted lies in his 2003 state of the
union speech. Not one of the major networks so much as noticed
until six months later, and Bush had already declared victory in
Iraq.
Even then, they only noticed the "Sixteen Words" fantasy.
And then there was the Plame case. That took two months before
anyone in the media noticed, and only a few days before they
forgot about it.
And then there's Bush's draft-dodging-turned-desertion. Although
Clinton's efforts to avoid the draft (which didn't pull strings or
break the law) spawned some 13,000 major news stories, Bush's
desertion inspired less than 50 major media stories. When the
media did notice the problems with Bush's service record, they
denied it.
A good example of this was Peter Jennings whom, during the New
Hampshire Presidential Primary debates, actually ATTACKED
Wes Clark for not denouncing Michael Moore for talking about
Bush's shameful record!
Even today, Bush's smearboat men get more press coverage with
their attacks on Kerry -- though they contradict military records
and their very own histories -- than Bush's desertion.
The GOP controls the media. Get used to it.

Could you be more specific?
Even then, they only noticed the "Sixteen Words" fantasy.
And then there was the Plame case. That took two months before
anyone in the media noticed, and only a few days before they
forgot about it.
Or before their viewers got sick of hearing about it. News is, after
all, a business. The whole Plame thing lacked "sex appeal." A
commentary more on our society than on the news agencies, in my humble
opinion.
And then there's Bush's draft-dodging-turned-desertion. Although
Clinton's efforts to avoid the draft (which didn't pull strings or
break the law) spawned some 13,000 major news stories, Bush's
desertion inspired less than 50 major media stories. When the
media did notice the problems with Bush's service record, they
denied it.
Curious: Where did you come up with these numbers?
A good example of this was Peter Jennings whom, during the New
Hampshire Presidential Primary debates, actually ATTACKED
Wes Clark for not denouncing Michael Moore for talking about
Bush's shameful record!
Moore is a lightning rod... he is too overtly willing to manipulate
the truth (of course everybody in the game manipulates the truth, but
Moore does so unabashedly). From a political standpoint it would have
made sense for any candidate to distance himself from Moore... at
least in public. Could this be what Jennings was referring to?
I'm not sure what you mean by attack, though... could you
characterize that? Didn't see the interview.
Even today, Bush's smearboat men get more press coverage with
their attacks on Kerry -- though they contradict military records
and their very own histories -- than Bush's desertion.
The GOP runs a pretty effective smear campaign. Not that both sides
don't try their hardest to make the other look bad.
The GOP controls the media. Get used to it.
Um... not buyin' that one. I mean, of course I've heard both sides
claim that the other side "controls the media". But I think the bias
of most major outlets are pretty well known. I.e. NY Times leans
left, WSJ leans right etc.. I'm not convinced that this influences
their news reporting to any great degree, although there have been
convincing demonstrations of bias in isolated instances.
Certainly any outlet that can break a story does so if they can
corroborate their sources. The Rather thing proves the importance of
not going on the air with flimsy sources, though...
I'd like to know yours.
Godfrey
