Matthew 8: 18-22. 7-2-2007. |
The Would-Be Followers Of Jesus.
When Jesus saw a crowd around him, he gave orders to cross to the
other side. A scribe approached and said to him, "Teacher, I will
follow you wherever you go." Jesus answered him, "Foxes have dens and
birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to rest
his head." Another of his disciples said to him, "Lord, let me go
first and bury my father." But Jesus answered him, "Follow me, and
let the dead bury their dead."

Wow! Jesus the self-pitying whiner!

The Would-Be Followers Of Jesus.
Yup. It is hardly surprising that a wannabe saviour would have
wannabe followers.
When Jesus saw a crowd around him, he gave orders to cross to the
other side. A scribe approached and said to him, "Teacher, I will
follow you wherever you go." Jesus answered him, "Foxes have dens and
birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to rest
his head."
For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
-- Matthew 11:30
Another of his disciples said to him, "Lord, let me go
first and bury my father." But Jesus answered him, "Follow me, and
let the dead bury their dead."
Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon
the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.
-- Exodus 20:12
Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not
kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honour thy father
and thy mother.
-- Luke 18:20
Also read:
Genesis 18: 16-33.
Psalm 103: 1-4, 8-11.
Couldn't be bothered.

Still no converts, padre? Your post about the Dangers of the Last
Days didn't bring 'em running? And your Exhortation to Spiritual
Renewal; no luck with that one?
It's time for a different marketing approach. How about a free
autographed bible to the first fifty converts? Or a bobble-head
Jesus.

Josef

Ah! So you have a job where results don't matter. It's good to
see that you found your calling.

God is the immemorial refuge of the incompetent, the helpless, the
miserable. They find not only sanctuary in His arms, but also a
kind of superiority, soothing to their macerated egos; He will set
them above their betters.
