Object: Meet some fine, upstanding Christians
From a forum at www.theologyweb.com:
My question:
"Suppose you had a child who didn't believe in God, and God commanded
his followers to bash your child's head in, a la Joshua and Jericho.
Would you stand by and watch while praising God's name?"

spl_cadet's answer:
"Yep. We belong to God, who created us after all."

Nobody disagreed.

Primitive, brain-dead theists pretty much all think like this. I saw an
interview with a traditional Hawaiian who worships Pelei (their volcano
gawd). She told the interviewer without a twitch of emotion, "Pelei
created all of these islands and she can do whatever she wants with them"
or something to that effect. That would include violently killing
everyone on them with a massive eruption, tidal wave, etc. By this same
"logic", since parents create a child, there should be nothing wrong with
them doing whatever they want with it either, including torturing it in
unspeakable ways. The Old Testament pretty much takes the same attitude
with their sky fairy. He can do whatever he wants and if he tells you to
do something, you have to do it, no matter what. Unsurprisingly, they
have a similar attitude about their children too. Children were pretty
much chattel to them.

eradicate." -- Richard Dawkins

Holy *****, Batman! People like this should not be allowed to breed. What if
they start hearing voices telling them to do just that! :(

The frightening this is that *I was the ONLY one who even took exception
to that statement*!
It wasn't just one lone wacko. NOBODY in that thread thought there was
anything wrong with what he said.

These are the kind of people that pray instead of taking their kid to a doctor.

Some of them do, Robyn, some of them do.

YIKES!!!!!!

I responded that if I knew him in real life and he said such a thing to
me, I would bash his face in with a tire iron -- which I most likely
would. How evil do you have to be to be willing to stand and watch your
own child's head get bashed in, while praising the one who ordered it,
simply because you believe the one who ordered it to be God?
