Michael Vick guilty of illegal dogfighting
DISGRACED grid-iron star Michael Vick has pleaded guilty to federal
dogfighting charges and apologised publicly for his involvement in running
the illegal ring and endorsing the killing of dogs.
The suspended Atlanta Falcons quarterback yesterday took full responsibility
for his actions and said he was ashamed for disappointing his fans and
teammates.
District judge Henry Hudson repeatedly reminded the star player that he was
not bound by the prison sentence of 12 to 18 months that prosecutors and
Vick's attorneys are recommending.
"The bottom line is that if I decide you deserve five years and give you
five years, you can't appeal it," Hudson said.
"You're taking your chances here.
"You have to live with whatever decision I make."

New judge appointed in Tiller case
District Judge Clark V. Owens has been appointed to oversee a case
prosecuting Wichita abortion provider George Tiller.
Owens, who was selected by Chief Judge Michael Corrigan, replaces Judge
Anthony Powell.
Powell recused himself from the case Friday after news media coverage of
statements he made about Tiller nine years ago as a member of the Kansas
Legislature.
Tiller is charged with 19 misdemeanor counts of violating a section of the
state's abortion law that requires a second, independent doctor's opinion
before late-term abortions can be performed.
The attorney general's office alleges that Tiller had an unacceptable
financial tie to Ann Kristin Neuhaus, the doctor who provided the required
consultations for Tiller's patients.

At first I misread "nanocerebric" as
"nonacerebric". I had no idea what the insult
"nine-brained" was supposed to convey. ;-)

Michael Vick guilty of illegal dogfighting
Is there any reason at all why you're posting all this nonsense to
alt.abortion or alt.atheism? Are you that lonely that the only way you
can have small talk conversations is by sending this to total
strangers who despise you?
Have you any idea how pathetic you are, J Young?

I can't believe that you're really that stupid that you would ask why is a
post about George Tiller "the Baby Killer" being sent to alt.abortion. As
far as alt.atheism; the *real* atheists in the group that have earned a
reputation of respect all say that alt.atheism is for subjects of interest
to atheists, not just subjects about atheism. Your input, being the peon
that you are, doesn't count.

Gee, that's kind of what you said when your were sockpuppeting as "Wilson":

Michael Vick guilty of illegal dogfighting
DISGRACED grid-iron star Michael Vick has pleaded guilty to federal
dogfighting charges and apologised publicly for his involvement in running
the illegal ring and endorsing the killing of dogs.
He got caught and it is going to cost him millions. For the kind of
money potentially involved here there is nothing he would not do or
say to protect himself.
There is no reason to believe a word he says.
He is guilty of one of the most reprehensible acts imaginable, and it
appears there is a sub-culture of cretins that enjoy this. A message
should be sent to all of them this will not be tolerated.
For the first time in my life I wish I was a sports fan so my not
being a sports fan would actually have some meaning but I have no
support to withdraw and I regret it.
The suspended Atlanta Falcons quarterback yesterday took full responsibility
for his actions and said he was ashamed for disappointing his fans and
teammates.
I bet his bank account was not far from his mind.
Go for it.
"You're taking your chances here.
"You have to live with whatever decision I make."

What is wrong? In the first case the judge explained the situation
regarding the case before him, in the second case the judge had
already commented on the people involved before he had the case. The
first judge did exactly what a judge is suppose to do, the second
judge, if he had any reasonable judicial ethics, should have recused
himself immediately.
