RALLY TO DEFEND SEPARATION OF STATE AND CHURCH
WHEN: WEDNESDAY, MARCH 2, 2005, MICHIGAN TIME: 11:00AM - 1:00PM
WHERE: MICHIGAN STATE CAPITOL LANSING,
For the first time in 25 years the Supreme Court of the United States
will hear oral arguments involving Ten Commandments displays on March
2, 2005 in Washington, DC. In support of this important occasion,
Michigan's Atheists, Agnostics, Humanists and concerned believers will
gather to defend separation of state and church and voice our
objections to the posting of the Ten Commandments in the public square.
STAGING AREA: Our rally will take place at the State Capitol on the
East lawn, at Capitol and Michigan Avenue. A huge banner "DEFENDING
SEPARATION OF STATE ANC CHURCH'" will hang at this main entrance.
SPEAKERS: You are invited to speak on behalf of state-church
separation and the unconstitutional posting of the Ten Commandments.
Please hold your comments to 5 minutes. Speeches will begin at 11:30 AM.
WEATHER: The weather prediction for Lansing on Wednesday is cold and
the possibilities of snow showers. Dress warm. A blanket may be a
good idea.
WHAT TO BRING: Please bring your own signs, but driving stakes or any
object into the lawn is prohibited. Noisemakers are great, and a lawn
chair is almost a must.
PARKING: During workdays, parking is a major problem around the
Capitol. There is metered parking on all streets around Capitol Square
and five parking ramps within three blocks of the Capitol. You may
also park in the Michigan Library and Historical Center parking lot on
W. Allegan St. Plan to arrive early, as you may need to shop for a
place to park.
AFTER RALLY GET-TOGETHER: Kelly's Downtown, 203 S. Washington Square (2
blocks from rally).
